Palin & Family Guy

No, but what you seem to be missing is:
  1. The character actually has nothing in common with any political figure or their children.

  1. Then why didn't MacFarlane say so on the Bill Maher show? What is the reference to "My mom's the former governor of Alaska?"

The character is actually depicted as a self-confident, non-helpless, and intelligent (though manipulative) human being regardless the Downs Syndrome.

The character seems quite masculine and oppressive

The whole point of the character was to make the show's regular character, Peter, seem like an imbecile.

Sure. And Peter doesn't appear as an imbecile in every episode?

Each of those three things are exactly the opposite of the ridiculous accusations you keep making about the character, the show's intentions for having the character, and the point of the character in the first place.

Cue more "but, but, Clinton!" or "but, but, Biden!" or "but, but, Pelosi" nonsense as a response.

If you do not like the photo of Pelosi using family members for political purposes in the work place then you should chastise Cynic for asking this question in this thread.

How many other politicians bring their babies up on stage?

When libs apply the same standard to Clinton by reprimanding him for forcing a restaurant owner to take down a photo of Chelsea, as they do to S.P. for merely commenting on the Family Guy episode, there wouldn't be a need to bring it up. The same goes for libs ignoring Biden's propensity for gaffes when he is the actual VP, not S.P.

I'm sorry, but are you trying to keep ignoring the point and continue to try to make this a "bad liberals, poor conservatives" issue in the hopes that you will fool someone...?

No is arguing that Clinton did not over react. He did. So did Palin. Also, Clinton did not claim insult. Palin did. How am I being inconsistent? I just watched the entirety of the Real Time with Bill Maher episode that had Seth MacFarlane on. They made fun of Rahm. Liberals have no problem with mocking or making fun of other liberals. There was plenty of political angst about the Democrats being a weak appeasment based party. Harry Reid received quite a bit of directed anger. Liberals do not restrict their reprimands to conservatives.

Why? Does it get any better with subsequent viewings?

Is Stewie's song about Chris's date supposed to be flattering to Down Syndrome folks?

"You must impress that ultra booming, all consuming, poorly grooming, Down Syndrome Girl. You ought to take that little whore and spin her on the dancing floor."

The one where Stewie is still a baby in the future?

Then why didn't MacFarlane say so on the Bill Maher show?

Well, either he's engaged in the conspiracy you've laid out or he's not therefore there would be no reason to.

But of course you won't see why that simple tautology is at all an issue for your argument.

Its like saying George Lucas supports choking your underlings because Darth Vader chokes his underlings.

You might be on to something there, as re George Lucas.

I can't believe that people are still arguing with Cicero in this thread, since he's been impersonating a raving lunatic for about the last 3 pages. This is Orly Taitz territory.

From the link in the OP.

The former Alaska governor said on her Facebook page that she was too angry to offer a coherent response so she had her daughter, Bristol, release a full statement on the family’s behalf.

Shows strong leadership skills coupled with a desire to protect her children from the media.

Wait, you're asking why McFarlane didn't say the character had nothing to do with Sarah Palin? Because the whole point of the joke was to keep people like you trying to make it about Palin. Or did Todd Palin somehow become a business accountant? You see, the character also said her dad was an accountant. Careful: your confirmation bias is showing.

The character seems quite masculine and oppressive.

That you define bossy and domineering as masculine traits says more about you than it does the show.

Sure. And Peter doesn't appear as an imbecile in every episode?

Sure. And I meant Peter's son, but the same still applies-- they're both comic dopes. But that doesn't change the purpose of the bit character. After all, we all know the one neighbor is a pretty pervy horndog, but the show usually uses female characters to display his pervy-horndog-ness. Your protest doesn't make any sense.

If you do not like the photo of Pelosi using family members for political purposes in the work place then you should chastise Cynic for asking this question in this thread.

There you go playing the "but, but..." game again. And you're changing the subject. Can't you keep on the subject at hand? Are the mental gymnastics you're doing to maintain outrage making you tired?

MacFarlane was making fun of Alaska? Mothers? Governors? Former governors?

The show does flash backs and flash forwards all the time.

Where does MacFarlane deny that the character was not Trigg?

MacFarlane definitely understand the nature of Bill Maher's studio audience since he can't resist calling Bush 43 "retarded" which gets applause and chortles.

And, why wouldn't it. Truth sometimes hurts, sometimes gets laughs!!. Weird world, but there it is!!:):D:)

Thats because all of the good writing goes to American Dad.

I agree. I used to love Family Guy but lately the episodes have been increasingly "meh" whereas American Dad just goes from strength to strength. I think it's because the characters in Family Guy are pretty shallow - there's very little of interest you can actually delve into with any of the kids etc.

In contrast the other family members in American Dad all have their own complex little issues and things, so you can more easily have entire episodes revolve around them.

I still love both shows. However yes, I feel the past two or three seasons of Family Guy have been weaker as American Dad has increasingly strengthened. Season 4 was my favorite. Sure, all of Seth's shows follow a simple formula he fell into. Not exactly odd for any prolific entertainer in TV.

My personal opinion is that the "mom being the former governor of Alaska" was just an add on. They probably had the whole episode written and then realized that Palin was a mom to a downs syndrome kid, so they threw in an oblique allusion to it.

I also think Palin never actually watched it because, in my experience, conservatives loathe Family Guy and treat it like it's obscene.

What "cause" is that exactly?

Down's syndrome kids being asexual little angels who would never be able to grasp a politics joke.

********. Look at Chris' hairstyle.

I can't believe that no one else pointed this out to you, but you're just outstandingly wrong. Did you miss the entire three or more minute song and dance about Stewie making Chris presentable for the date? Are you just ignoring the segment that came immediately before the one you are criticizing?

That's just so messed up.

MacFarlane has already done that.

No. Him being a fairly liberal guy means nothing. Ad hom is still ad hom. Your assertions are getting pretty insane.

Just as a technicality, it is my understanding that Clinton tried to get the photo removed but was unsuccessful. I believe it was stated that the Clinton letter AND THE PHOTO are both currently in the window.:)

My suspicion is more that like far (right) too many republickers, he may be in love with Sarah and be after anyone who dares defame her. That is merely a theory, of course, as I am not a mind reader, though I have never stayed at a Holiday Inn Express.

That would be the same actress who was compelled to offer her political wisdom about how and why S.P. transports Trigg.

And she was completely right, too. Gotta love how Sarah Palin got burned by a person with Down Syndrome. :newlol

Oh, and your interpretation of the episode is so wonderfully insane, it's almost cute. Keep it at it, it's very entertaining.
