Ed Olympic swimmers may have lied about being robbed

One question (it hasn't been answered by any news account I've read). Did any of these four geniuses think of asking for a key when they found the bathroom door locked? If not, breaking down the door is inexcusable. If they asked and were refused, the proper response is not breaking down the door, but peeing on the floor. :D

A broken bathroom door was mentioned in early reporting but is now not mentioned at all. Video shows them going in and out of the bathroom. They may not have broken the door. Video also shows one pissing in the alley next to the gas station. I'm now guessing that the bathroom could not accommodate 4 pissers at the same time and so one went to the alley.

Most current reporting is that:

They threw rocks at the station.
They damaged a sign.
One pissed next to the station.
When then confronted by a guard(s), Lochte was aggressively confrontational.
A gun was pointed at Lochte to de-escalate his aggression.

That's not a complete list of events at the station but it looks like they probably didn't bust down the door.

Police interviewed Lochte and he gave false statements to them. He was supposed to be a victim of crime. Instead he committed a crime himself.
 
Doubt it will happen, but I'd be tempted to haul their arses in just to show the prima donnas they aren't as special as they think

Me? I have been spiteful ever since Rio won the games from Chicago. So I really wanted this to be another feather in the cap of "see corrupt IOC!" and as such I will only believe the story is false if the all the swimmers go on camera and say so outside of Brazil.

Daily Mail: One eyewitness said that the swimmers initially refused to pay for the damage and when told the police were coming said that if they went to jail 'America would be mad'.

Well, other than the fact that is was crystal clear they were partying drunks and lying their teeth off. In contrast, there was zero evidence that police corruption had anything to do with this incident.

Yeah, I hope you don't have any plans for awhile if you're waiting for that. Last night I brought up Phelps and she pretty much dismissed him as an aberration, as though he was unique.

If he had a reputation of being smarter (apparently it is the opposite...) I would think he could be lining himself up for another lucrative tv reality show deal...something like "Drunk in Rio: Party with Ryan!"

CNN: "The 12-time Olympic medalist is currently sponsored by Speedo, Airweave and Polo Ralph Lauren.

Speedo released this statement about Lochte: "Speedo is a sponsor of Ryan Lochte (USA). Speedo is following the situation, and has a policy not to comment on ongoing legal investigations. We suggest you contact his team for additional information."

The other companies have yet to comment on the incident.

For Lochte, picking up endorsements isn't just about prestige -- sponsor funding will be key if he wants to compete at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Even if he decides to retire, a scandal could hurt his ability to market himself outside of the pool.

What's key for Lochte now is whether he responds to this incident with remorse or defiance -- advertisers will of course want to see him as nothing but contrite."
 
And I think what they would be willing to pay Lochte has taken a big nose dive.

And I wonder if this stunt will make him persona non grata for 2020 in any case.

Well...Ryan Lochte is 32 years old - and that's too old to be doing this type of jackass stuff. And, he's probably to old to be worrying about a return in 2020.

Because Phelps is retiring Lochte would actually be favored for gold in 2020. Now there is trouble.

You do realize that he had his own show ... right? The guy is totally incapable of stringing two sentences together. To say he's thick as a brick is an insult to bricks.
