Obama's "Uninsured Americans" Lie

Or are you ready to concede that Obama wasn't lying when he said "nearly 50 million Americans" lack health insurance?

I refer you again to factcheck.org's article on this topic. It basically says depending on how you count "uninsured" you can get a number higher or lower than the 46 million (uninsured at any given point in time during the year). Something like 28 million were uninsured for the entire year, and something like 65.9 million were uninsured for at least one month. Again, these figures come from the 2005 Census, and we can expect all these figures to be higher since the economy took a turn for the worse since then. Even if you remove illegal aliens (estimated to be about 6 million in this article), using the term "nearly 50 million" is still reasonable.

About all I can do at this point is note, YET AGAIN, that the above was not what I claimed the lie to be in the OP or anywhere else in this thread. JoeTheJuggler is simply derailing the thread, as he has been doing since post #24, by misrepresenting what I indicated was the lie. Just as he misrepresented what I said with regards to Obama lying about the stimulus. And neither I or anyone else who has pointed out his failure to understand the OP and what I claimed was the nature of the lie has been able to stop him. Now I'm just going to wait and see what happens.

It is clear that there was no lie made by Obama here. Only an attempt to force a view onto Obama that never held.

Your words, your bolding from the OP:
Why do Obama and democrats keep regurgitating this obvious lie about the number of uninsured Americans? Have they no shame?

And later in the OP:

So why don't Obama and the democrats be honest in their presentation and say that the number of Americans who cannot afford health insurance is somewhere between 10 and 14 million? Why do they continue to lie and claim that number is 45 or even 50 million?

10 or 14 million is an absurd underestimate.

And also from the OP:
Are any of those 5 to 7 million chronically uninsured Americans in that category? Perhaps most of them? If so, then the democrat claim is nearly 100% LIE.

But then lies are all we've come to expect from Obama and the democrats.
Obama definitely wasn't talking about the "chronically uninsured". That figure, those who were uninsured for the entire year (2005) was 27.6 million. (Again, we can safely assume that the number is higher now.) 5 to 7 million is way off for this figure anyway. From the factcheck.org article I already cited:
The Census Bureau's long-term Survey of Income and Program Participation found that 27.6 million people were without insurance for the entire year in 2005, and 65.9 million were uninsured for at least one month during the year.

I did NOT derail this thread and I did not misrepresent your claim. I've merely proven (as have others) that your claim that Obama lied is false.

ETA: You repeatedly claimed that Obama lied about the number of uninsured Americans. If the claim isn't about Obama's saying that there are "nearly 50 million" then what statement has Obama made about the number of uninsured Americans that you think is a lie?

Perhaps for the sake of clarity, BAC could quote the statement by Obama he believes to be a lie, and then cite the evidence that proves it so.

Maybe the statement he's after can be found on these pages which explain Obama's approach to health care reform:

http://www.whitehouse.gov/issues/health_care/
http://healthreform.gov/

So far, the closest I've found is a statement made by Kathleen Sebelius on this page.
Sebellius said:
Under the status quo, too many Americans can’t get the affordable care they need when they fall ill.
and this (my bolding):
Sebellius said:
A new Urban Institute study entitled, “Health Reform: The Cost of Failure” shows that, over the next ten years, small businesses’ spending on premiums will increase by a projected 47%, despite a precipitous drop in coverage meaning that small businesses will be paying more to insure fewer workers. Families will bear an even greater burden. For those families who keep their health insurance, the cost of premiums and out-of-pocket expenditures will increase by 68% and account for 20% of their income. Even more daunting is that, by 2019, the uninsured population will increase to 65.7 million people, or 23.2% of the population.

But I've only just skimmed through a little bit of the stuff on these pages.

And while he's at it, I'd like to know what difference it makes that people choose not to pay or can't afford to pay. Health care for both of these groups is currently being paid for out of my health insurance premium which covers uncollected dept incurred by the health care system. Why should I as a person who does pay for my health care be disproportionately paying for people who don't pay?

The Republic Party* and Libertarians object to mandatory insurance requirements all the while ignoring the fact these people are getting care regardless while someone else is paying.

(*Tired of continuing to hear the "Democrat Party" repeatedly I've decided to adopt the name, Republic Party, in response.)

Bump.

Now that we have seen the factcheck article, just waiting to see if BAC cares to discuss which of Obama's statements was a lie.

Or would that be derailing the thread?

Bump again.

I wonder if this could means that there was no lie??

... snip ...

Last week, the House Ways and Means Committee defeated an amendment that would have prevented illegal aliens from using the so-called “public health insurance option.” Every Democrat on the panel voted against the measure.

... snip ...

The Democratic leadership denies that an estimated 12-20 million illegal immigrants will receive taxpayer-subsidized health insurance coverage.

Anyone else detect the stench of dishonesty?

If they're working, they're paying into the system, just like they pay Social Security.

I do detect the stench of dishonesty. You quoted Michelle Malkin, didn't you?

I detect the stench of incompetence. Someone asked Obamanation the other day a direct question regarding his healthcare plan and he conceded he did not know the answer. Turns out the answer is on page 16. He hasn't read his own plan.

Snipped, out of context quotes from Michelle Malkin. That's worthy of a thread? Throw in Fox News and the post-Murdoch Wall Street Journal. Maybe an audio clip of Rush Limbaugh and some youtube of Sean Hannity would really seal the deal.

So, what did the ammendment actually say, and why did Democrats vote against it?

Never mind. That would require effort and thought to answer that question.

Thank you for calling President Obama "Obamanation." It helps me know how seriously to take you.

But as the audio that Limbaugh provided made clear, Obama simply said he was "not familiar" with a specific provision that the blogger asked Obama to comment on. Citing the IBD editorial, the blogger asked whether the bill will "make individual private medical insurance illegal." And as Heritage itself noted, undermining its own headline as well as Drudge and Limbaugh's subsequent claims, the bill does not in fact outlaw private individual health insurance. Heritage stated: "We are familiar with the passage IBD sites, and as we wrote last week, the House bill does not outright outlaw private individual health insurance, but it does effectively regulate it out of existence." Thus, Drudge and Limbaugh have effectively criticized Obama not for expressing a lack of familiarity with a provision actually in the bill, but for expressing a lack of familiarity with a false talking point advanced by the bill's opponents.

You were saying?

The so-called "Public Health Insurance Option" is not what most people seem to think it is. It is not some version of single payer Canada/UK-style healthcare. The government basically just wants to offer its own insurance plan alongside the private ones. Just like any insurance plan, you have to send in premiums in order to get covered.

Preventing illegal immigrants from using the "public health insurance option" makes as much sense as trying to prevent illegal immigrants from using toll roads. Why wouldn't we want them to pay into the system?

I actually read the Malkin piece, and followed up on a couple of its elements.

BAC was right. The stench of dishonesty was all through it.

And, as noted on this other thread, ERs do treat uninsured illegals (same as they treat anyone else whether or not they can afford to pay), so it makes sense to have these people pay a premium.

ETA: BTW, BaC, I thought you were worried that Obama's plan would cut off healthcare for illegals:

If that's true, Joe, then the average person should be told by Obama that in country after country that have Universal Health Care systems, illegals don't even have access to health CARE. The US at least provides those people with help when they go to our ERs or hospitals. And that's one reason those other systems are less expensive than ours. Is Obama suggesting we take away that *option* from our illegal population? ;)

That is the most sensible thing by far that has been said on this subject.
