Falwell and Pat Robertson blamed gays and feminists for 9-11 and now this.

March 13, 2008—

Sen. Barack Obama's pastor says blacks should not sing "God Bless America" but "God d##n America."

The Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Obama's pastor for the last 20 years at the Trinity United Church of Christ on Chicago's south side, has a long history of what even Obama's campaign aides concede is "inflammatory rhetoric," including the assertion that the United States brought on the 9/11 attacks with its own "terrorism."

Well I wouldn't go so far as to say its own "terrorism" but US Foreign policy and the way they handled OBL while he was in ther Sudan certainly helped to cause it. Pre-1995 OBL was primarily focused on the Islamic world, following the tennants prepared by Sayyid Qutb, that Radical Islam had to recreate the Islamic Nations before they could press Islam on throughtout the rest of the world. After the US's interference in 1995, OBL determined that the only way to do that was to first remove the US's influence over the "westernised" Islamic Governments and switched his focus from the likes of the Saudi Royals to the US and it's allies.

As a result, yes the US did cause 9/11 to happen.

Pat Robertson also claimed that Hurricane Katrina was punishment for New Orleans' sinful nature. Oh, and gays...

The Rev. Wright said:
In addition to damning America, he told his congregation on the Sunday after Sept. 11, 2001 that the United States had brought on al Qaeda's attacks because of its own terrorism.

"We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye," Rev. Wright said in a sermon on Sept. 16, 2001

Didn't you get the memo from Mr. Big? Katrina was caused by Japanese gangsters in retailation for Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

its called "blowback". anyone with a bit of intelligence understands its the truth.

when you stick your nose in others peoples business for long enough, eventually they will get pissed off and stick you back.

His comments on 9-11, aren't of the truther variety.

He did call AIDS a government conspiracy though, so you gotta think that he's not too far away from full blown 9-11 denial.

Is it just me, or is this a fallacy? The "anyone with intelligence" part.

its not a conspiracy theory to believe that 9-11 was the result of decades of american interference in the affairs of muslim countries. its not paranoia to believe that muslims are very very angry at the usa because of out hypocritical policies in their part of the world.

9-11 deniars deny the clear evidence infront of their very eyes about 9-11. neo-conservatives are sometimes the exact same way. thats because they share something very basic with 9-11 deniars.

extremism to the point of denying the reality that everyone else on the planet seems able to grasp.

Depends on if his belief is that they created and spread it, or just did nothing about it after knowing it was a problem but didn't give a toss because at the time is was just a "gay-disease"

if the point of AIDS is genocide, its doing a really crappy job. the african american population is increasing, not decreasing.

also, i predict within 15 years, we will find either a vaccine or even a cure for AIDS.

No, it's called "terrorism vs. terrorism" according to the point of this thread, meaning he thinks the US is more immoral than Al Qaeda at least according to his nuclear bomb "terrorism" comparison. "Blowback" isn't the same as deserving it, a distinction doesn't seem to stand out to you.

It looks like Abe Lincoln/MLK/Kennedy is back... and this time he's pissed as hell.

By the way, this is the pastor that had apparently such a big persona influence on Obama that he gave Obama's personal manifesto, "Audacity of Hope," it's title. This also was the church that had such a strong influence on Obama it made him convert to christianity after being raised un-religious. As crazy as republican supporting preachers are, this doesn't seem to be comparable, since this is Obama voluntarily profoundly associating himself (converting because of this church, being a member for over 20 years, long term voluntary self described "family" like relationship with this crazy pastor) not vis versa, ie crazy preachers voluntarily associating themselves with republicans and republicans accepting to increase supporters.

This isn't the VietCong parky, somewhat amplified by the recent murder of a Christian leader in Iraq.

Take a look at the martyrdom videos of the men who blew up targets in Saudi Arabia a few years ago. I watched them all. When asked by their brother behind the camera why they are doing this, they replied 'To establish an Islamic State'.

Later on in the same video they broadcast their deaths whilst driving into the compound they were about to bomb. They were chanting 'God is Great', not 'Freedom for Palestine'.

Ed Husain, an ex-Hizb Ut-Tahrir member, said he had no doubt that the July 7th bombings were everything to do with Islam and nothing to do with foriegn policy.

As does Hussan Butt, an ex-radical, who knew Mohammed Sidique Khan.

When I was still a member of what is probably best termed the British Jihadi Network, a series of semi-autonomous British Muslim terrorist groups linked by a single ideology, I remember how we used to laugh in celebration whenever people on TV proclaimed that the sole cause for Islamic acts of terror like 9/11, the Madrid bombings and 7/7 was Western foreign policy.

By blaming the government for our actions, those who pushed the 'Blair's bombs' line did our propaganda work for us. More important, they also helped to draw away any critical examination from the real engine of our violence: Islamic theology....

Some reading from the Islamist Manifesto:

So which candidate(s) were longtime members and regular attendees of Robertson's and Falwell's churches?

Neither. Yet both Falwell and Robertson were embraced by conservative media. I have seen them making guest apperances on various mainstream news programs.

So conservative is the new mainstream? Who knew?

And how is having someone appear on a news program "embracing" him? One of Fred Phelps's minions was on Hannity and Colmes some time ago, and they spent the segment tag-teaming to see who could beat her up the worst. Was that "embracing" her?

Please explain what you mean by Falwell and Robertson being "embraced" by conservative media. Examples would be helpful. And if you can tie any presidential candidate to either of them with more than a one-day visit for a stump speech and a grip-and-grin photo-op, I'm sure we'd all be interested to see that.
