Merged Obama Birth Certificate Released

Because there was some question as to whether they simply registered his birth or he was born there.
You do know this claim is based on an idiotic premise that somehow his mother needed to pretend he was born here for some citizenship benefit, right? Children are US citizens if born to a single US parent regardless of the place of birth. Your kids don't lose their citizenship because the mother was out of the country when the kids were born. This is a fact the media did little to point out.

In addition, travel to Kenya was no simple feat in the 60s. There were no direct flights between Kenya and the US. There was no public airport in Mombassa, only a military airport. Mombassa is the birthplace listed on the fake birth certificate that surfaced a couple years ago. The Obamas would have had to travel overland (in the 60s in Kenya also no easy feat) to Nairobi to fly out. It would have taken a couple days to get to the US and even longer to get to Hawaii.

Then there is the little problem that Obama Sr had another wife in Kenya he had not formally divorced so it is unlikely they would have traveled to Kenya at that time.

The entire story was not just a fabricated lie, it was implausible. But who cares about facts or truth when your primary goal is to tarnish a political opponent.

He should have released it a long time ago and the fact he has now shows that.
Why? Why should a person have to refute every crackpot that makes a claim, "I've been told by people"? That's all anyone's ever had here.

He didn't have to lean on the state. They were willing to release it all along. He just didn't seem to think reassuring millions of Americans he was born here wasn't necessary.

Speaks volumes about the attitude towards everyday Americans.

about 1 % of the population of America it clinically insane.

That still translates into millions of Americans.

See: BAC et al were more willing to believe the story that you outlined above than the certified document from the State of Hawaii.

Think about that...they were willing to do all kinds of intellectual and logical backflips to sustain an unreasonable suspicion and than, at the end of it, pretend that it was all a civic service they were doing and that those who called this foolishness for the stupidity it is somehow owe the birthers an apology.

He has retired to the ranch. But Obama now follows his policies almost to the letter.

Indeed, Barry has proven to be just as much of a whore for the capitalist pigs and Bible-beaters as any Republican. The real reasons the GOP doesn't like him are 1) he plays for the opposing team, 2) he's black.

He...released...his...birth...certificate...YEARS AGO. Why can't you get that through your thick skull?? The original "short form" COLB released is what ANY Hawaiian would receive if they requested a birth certificate.

There was no tangible need for him to release "the original" besides satisfying idiotic, bull headed birthers. But that's what he's done since the issue has continued to froth and brew and the loony right has gravitated towards and stimulated the issue for some odd reason. If they want to marginalize themselves they're doing a great job.

Took them 3 days to download photoshop. :p

The edits were not done with photoshop, they were done with Mac OS X 10.6.7 Quartz PDFContext. It's in the header.

And yes, actually, there were edits to the document text. I'm being completely serious, and you can verify this yourself. I don't have Quartz, but I have Illustrator, and if you do Windows->Actions->Links, you can see what sections of text were edited. That doesn't tell you what it was like before the edit, and in fact it doesn't even tell you that the edit changed any content. I would guess that the edits were simply to make the document more legible. But it has been edited.

Cue massive apologies from Obama defenders who laughably insisted it wasn't possible for him to obtain a certified copy of his long-form birth certificate.

Birthers have nothing to apologize for. Obama should have produced this years ago. Why would he not have done that? What does that say about the man?
Wait, let me guess: you only eat chunky peanut butter, right?

Which goes back to what I said. If the birthers are just shooting themselves and the GOP in the foot, he'd just ignore it and come out way ahead. With Trump pushing it, more people were falling for it. Clearly he thinks not disclosing it was doing more harm than good, so he released it.

You don't think Birtherism is motivated by racism?

Maybe, maybe not. I generally try to avoid assigning such malign motives when more pedestrian ones (such as simple opportunism) are sufficient to explain the actions. Obsessing over motives is too often a convenient way to avoid discussing content, and it's easy enough to shoot down birtherism on the content front that I just don't see the point in hurling accusations of racism.

I'm guessing that Jerome Corsi, author of The Obama Nation and co-author of Unfit For Command: Swift Boat Veterans Speak Out Against John Kerry is not going to be too happy today, given his new book--Where's the Birth Certificate?: The Case that Barack Obama is not Eligible to be President--is not set for release till May 17.

Makes me happy, though. Good timing. :)

No maybes about it.

You missed my earlier post.

Not if he wants to make it clear that these people have absolutely no fertile ground to stand on. The birthers are a larger segment of the population than i'd like to admit.

Corsi is probably sweating bullets right now thinking of ways to rectify this situation for the sake of sales. I love it... :D

It seems like they were growing. At some point in his mind, or the minds of his advisers, a line was crossed or would soon be crossed in which it would be more of a liability to not address it.

I have to agree with Ziggy here. I'm sure there are some people who hate Obama and some of them are racists, but there are lots of people who hate him for reasons unrelated to race. After all, there are plenty of ridiculous conspiracy theories about the Clintons too. Some people will believe anything bad about any Democrat, not just the black ones.

Nobody seems to be obsessing over motives. The only obsession I've seen opponents of birtherism extol is over the clear evidence that the President was born in the United States. Accusations of racism seem to be a side issue, but it isn't, IMHO, something that is unworthy of discussion. It's no secret that he is the only President who has been obsessively asked for confirmation that he is was born in the country he leads. Given the evidence is so overwhelming, It seems that some people just cannot bring themselves accept that he is an American. That his father was Kenyan seems to be a piece in the jigsaw for why people wouldn't be able to accept that.
