Obama appears on Daily Show. And..... meh

In my opinion and in the opinion of others who saw it last night, he did well. I didn't ever think any sane person would expect magic tricks that would cure all the problems caused, in part, by the previous administration to disappear immediately.

I just think we now have a president who is better endowed with the brains and social conscience to solve the problems facing us that the previous one. Who was a

I agree, Jeff. Jon Stewart asked some tough questions, and Obama gave thorough, more-than-satisfactory answers.

i dislike this mixture of news and comedy.

T.A.M., I think you might be confusing "different from" with "better than".

ETA: And also possibly confusing "winning a Canadian election" with "being a good thing for Canada".

Lol...

All i know is that obama is much smarter, much more intellectually curious, much more poised, and much more diplomatic, then Bush ever was.

As for winnin a canuck election and being good for my country...he would win in a landslide, and he would be fantastic for my country. Here we basically elect one from a horrible bunch of candidates.

I read an article in the Washington Post summarizing the interview. Then I tried watching it and figured the article gave enough of the general gist.

I wonder if Republicans are pulling out their hair over Stewart's plea for reasonableness and sanity considering he is by their measure an out-and-out communist. Stewart (correctly) described Obama's health-care legislation as "timid," but jackass right-wingers have been thundering that he's taken over the whole sector, a fifth of the economy, blah blah blah.

Uhhhbama also looked small and says "you know" too much. I know that if I had to give an impromptu monologue I would "uhhh" too much, but he's the freaking president, which is still surreal considering in the 80s he was over in Occidental College smokin' weed and listening to ****** music.

His "uhhhhh" is likely a combination of his cadence, and him actually pausing to think about what to say or what was asked.

And that is exactly, imo, why it did not work. Obama was to serious for most of the interview, and it brought Stewart down into it....though he did have some moments.

Edit: Oh and if Obama came to Canada, he would win in a land slide, and we would have him in a heart beat. That is a different thread.:D

Let's not get too carried away TAM :)

Some of us aren't exactly enamored with Obama.

His best moment was unintended :D

Yes we can.... but.

So much of what people try to pass off as news nowadays is laughable anyway. At least Stewart & co are trying to be funny.

that is somewhat true, and Stewart is not only trying to be funny, he is very very funny. but still the show is a nix i dislike. It is not serious enough to be Political cabaret but to serous topics for comedy.

We got it in the UK lat night - possibly an edited version.

He came across OK, in my opinion. One thing that struck me was his height, especially compared with Stewart. Guess what, Wiki has a page on presidential heights! :jaw-dropp

Great presidents reach out to the people. FDR used to read the Sunday funnies on the radio.

i would like to see him or presidents in general on TV shows that are serious debates etc and not in comedy shows.

Obama is heads and tails above those two. He is articulate, and if anything a little too professorial for the average guy to relate to I guess...what a crime.

lol What parallel universe do you live in where Obama's not better than Bush?

I can't begin to tell you how sick I am of hearing this. I didn't bother responding for quite some time- as a matter of fact, I gave you guys almost the entire first two years to repeat this meaningless cliche again and again- but as we approach Obama's midterm exams, enough is ENOUGH.

Confirmed: Obama authorizes assassination of U.S. citizen

The Obama administration has taken the extraordinary step of authorizing the targeted killing of an American citizen, the radical Muslim cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, who is believed to have shifted from encouraging attacks on the United States to directly participating in them, intelligence and counterterrorism officials said Tuesday.

Now, I fully expect this will have ZERO effect on most of you. I'm sure some of you have grandparents who once debated circa 1945 that since Stalin was better than Hitler, clearly, the problems in East Europe were over. You can go on repeating the old "better than Bush" gem, and take added joy in knowing that the increase in blood pressure you are causing me will contribute to my eventual premature death.

But for those of you with one modicum of integrity, ask yourselves a simple question: did Timothy McVeigh deserve a trial? I believe the answer to this is an overwhelming YES, and furthermore, I sincerely hope that those of you who either disagree, or simply cannot understand the relevance of this case, will find yourselves on the wrong side of the law at some point. Not because I wish you ill, but because I sincerely believe that all it takes is ONE encounter with ONE crooked cop for ANYONE to understand just how precious our system of due process really is.

And just in case anyone thinks I'm quoting some lefty-bashing rag, think again- Glenn Greenwald stands FAR left from where I stand (Ron Paul nut, 'nuff said) but I believe his journalism is some of the finest available today.

The man is rapidly becoming an embarrassment to the office of POTUS. :(

This isn't about embarrassment (a cliche only slightly less meaningless than "better than Bush" FYI). This is about the rule of law, and the accountability of our elected leaders.

Oh, and just for the record- those of you who are Pro-Bush deserve all the wrath I'm tossing at my progressive friends today, and far, far worse. It was YOU who handed this deadly weapon to the Executive Branch. It was YOU who defined the current "anything for security" paradigm we are living in. Did you think Bush would be President forever? Maybe now you twits understand that "limiting government" is more than a marketing slogan, more important than partisan politics.

Foolish Jedi Republicans, only now, at the end, do you understand (what Jefferson was talking about)

tl;dr: AHHHHHHHHHH! :boxedin:
