That is fascinating. Was there any evidence of the log platforms which may be just a myth? Thanks for the URL. I was just going to say "sinkholes".
I visted Oak Island about 1960 and have pictures of the diggings and location somewhere. I'll see if I can find them.
If there ever was any mystery at Oak Island, there has been so much digging that no one currently knows where the "shaft" was supposedly located.![]()
I think you or someone misread the Wiki entry on "Treasure Island" which cited Kidd as having been...
History lesson: do you know how many pirates are known to have ACTUALLY buried their treasure?
One: Kidd
One actual pirate who buried treasure on an island was William Kidd on Gardiners Island. {However the booty was recovered by authorities soon afterwards}.
According to David Cordingly, "[T]here are very few documented examples of real pirates burying their loot. Most pirates preferred to spend their plunder..." (179).
Cordingly cites the first recording of wooden chests being obtained or constructed for the express purpose of stowing away pirated wealth to Captain Stratton, who buried "six bags filled with silver coins" and "six heavy wooden chests" at the mouth of a river near Chesapeake Bay, shortly before he was tried and convicted of piracy in 1720 (178).
Sir Francis Drake also buried some pirated wealth, ca. 1670, though he did not use chests or a map, and in fact left a detachment of his men to guard the treasure till his return, less than twelve hours later (179).
I guess the mystery is solved? that's all I need to hear?
Cheers'
Bandersnatch - Thanks; how did you come across that as Ranville never provided it?
Google'd!
Plus, I've seen this guy's posts before on a paranormal site.

Ditto. He's a new guy. At least be certain before accusing someone. I understand where you are coming from, but your post seems a lot more cynical than skeptical.

Anyone have anything not for immediate release? Perhaps soon release, or in awhile release?

In the Wiki entry for Treasure chest (historical) it says:
Oak Island is a mystery open to interpretations of opinions; organizations still keep this mystery alive, with the hopes of treasure that may be found.
I guess the mystery is solved? that's all I need to hear?
Oakster – Why does your “Immediate Release” note have a 1 AUG 2007 date, when the exact same “news release” can be found on your NBC profile…with a 28 AUG 2006 date?
