Oak Island's National Treasure Triangle

Skeptigirl - I'm more then happy to stand corrected should oakster actually participate in the discussion with more then self promoting "Immediate Release" notes, documentation from unknown PhD's, and endless snippets ending in questions :)

Thanks for the URL. I was just going to say "sinkholes".

I visted Oak Island about 1960 and have pictures of the diggings and location somewhere. I'll see if I can find them.

If there ever was any mystery at Oak Island, there has been so much digging that no one currently knows where the "shaft" was supposedly located.
That is fascinating. Was there any evidence of the log platforms which may be just a myth?

...

History lesson: do you know how many pirates are known to have ACTUALLY buried their treasure?
One: Kidd
I think you or someone misread the Wiki entry on "Treasure Island" which cited Kidd as having been
One actual pirate who buried treasure on an island was William Kidd on Gardiners Island. {However the booty was recovered by authorities soon afterwards}.

In the Wiki entry for Treasure chest (historical) it says:
According to David Cordingly, "[T]here are very few documented examples of real pirates burying their loot. Most pirates preferred to spend their plunder..." (179).

Cordingly cites the first recording of wooden chests being obtained or constructed for the express purpose of stowing away pirated wealth to Captain Stratton, who buried "six bags filled with silver coins" and "six heavy wooden chests" at the mouth of a river near Chesapeake Bay, shortly before he was tried and convicted of piracy in 1720 (178).

Sir Francis Drake also buried some pirated wealth, ca. 1670, though he did not use chests or a map, and in fact left a detachment of his men to guard the treasure till his return, less than twelve hours later (179).

Bandersnatch - Thanks; how did you come across that as Ranville never provided it?

Google'd!

Plus, I've seen this guy's posts before on a paranormal site.

You mean like a collection of once water soaked logs stacked in piles? Not a trace. There was a derrick over a hole in the ground. There was water in the hole.

Not mentioned here as yet are the coconut mats buried in the beach. I did not see any of those either.

I made two extensive visits to Oak Island in the 1990s. That was back when
the Triton Syndicate had a little museum on site along with "artifacts" and photos. It's a "Money Pit" all right- Triton and others before have spent tons of money without results.

Nothing to see here folks. Move along.

In the Wiki entry for Treasure chest (historical) it says:

Actually I had a book on Pirate myth versus history that listed Kidd as the only known example of a Pirate purposely burying and leaving treasure. It didn't mention Stratton, but it wasn't a hard history book, more of a young adult "Pirates aren't they cool guys you think they are" bit of light history. It had some nice cut-away maps of ships, though. :)

Oak Island is a mystery open to interpretations of opinions; organizations still keep this mystery alive, with the hopes of treasure that may be found.

Treasure in the pockets of a new batch of suckers ?

I guess the mystery is solved? that's all I need to hear?

All you need to hear is that the mystery about whether there's a chance of anybody on this forum being deluded enough to take you seriously is indeed solved ;)

Oakster – Why does your “Immediate Release” note have a 1 AUG 2007 date, when the exact same “news release” can be found on your NBC profile…with a 28 AUG 2006 date?
