NY AG files civil fraud suit against Trump

He's milking this to suck the earned media and take away coverage of the rest of the primary field. Without searching, has anyone heard about any campaign events from the other candidates this week? Every time there's a break, he goes and makes a statement and all the press rush to cover him live like rats running to a food pellet.

It's not news that Trump is mad that he's being sued by New York State. Most defendants in most cases, civil and criminal are hacked off about it. You can cover the dumb ****'s trial without breaking live to his every utterance of displeasure.

He may not be able to stop it, but are there consequences? Do they have contempt of court in the USA?

Yeah we also have laws against ordering a Coup and bragging about committing sexual assault and everything else Trump did with no consequences.

All contempt requires, though, is that someone disobeys an order of the court.

The contempt order is just preventing Trump from posting about the judge and court employees.

Trump might comply, but continue to slag off his other cases' *other* judges and employees.

Not sure of that part. The order said "his staff", and that may not include him.

And the news media is doing it again, letting Dump suck all the air out of the room.
We don't need to see his ever utterance in front of a mic and camera. They could sum it up with one report. Watching his motorcade on the way to the courthouse, ignorant media. And Dump knows just how to play them for the fools they are.

Remember when they dug up a recording of his fraud years ago where he pretended to be his own PR guy? He called the press and said Dump gets laid all the time, the women follow him around. And he faked his face on the cover of Time and put it conspicuously on a table at Mar a Lardo. He faked his wealth so he could get on Forbes richest people list.

Dump lives to see his face on the telly.

The odds that Trump will end up in pretrial confinement for one of his other criminal cases just went up. If Trump intimidates witnesses or court staff in this case, the Georgia or the DC judges might not wait for him to do it in their jurisdictions. If he's assessed to be a threat to public safety, they can remand Trump to custody. I don't think it will happen at the next hearing in DC but he's certainly closer to waiting in jail.

Come join the crowd waiting for any of these judges to actually act. We're showing reruns at the moment. ;)

"This time I really mean it, one, two, don't let me get to three .... I mean it ..."

Can Trump go to jail for defying an edict in a civil trial? Or will it just be "sanctions", whatever those turn out to be?

Its not necessarily a bad thing for the judge to issue such an order.

The problem is, this recent ruling seems to be pretty narrowly focused (dealing only with the judge's staff). There doesn't seem to be any restriction on attacking the prosecutors, and maybe not even the judge himself. Trump will still have plenty of material on which to spout his typical stream of idiocy.

It's a clever use of the gag order, as the SC judges won't want to rule that it's okay to threaten and abuse their staff

About the Trump Company getting to be run by a court appointed Stewart- given that the business model is fraud, forcing it to run lawfully is just a slow instead of quick death sentence for it

I don’t know about that. He wasn't all that successful at running the comic book store.
