NY AG files civil fraud suit against Trump

Uh, Trump is often delusional.
Or are you one of those who think the whole justice system is rigged in favor ot Trump?
I'm one of those who is sick of this ************ and even more sick of the "now they got him, but he's still evading accountability moments".

But thanks for the loaded question!

So basically, Trump supporters are going all Sovereign Citizen in their defense of him.

The whole, "He paid back his loans, there was no victim" is classic sov cit argument. "I was speeding, but who is the victim?" That's why the judge already told the lawyers to knock that **** off.

Or you could see it as a "I drove drunk and made it home safely, so it wasn't wrong" claim.

And like sov cits, they don't understand the nature of a civil infraction. How often is there a jury trial for a speeding ticket? Oh sure, you can request one, but it's certainly not common.

Now all we have to hear are arguments about what really constitutes being within the state of New York and their sov cit journey will be complete.

Yesterday's hearing does not seem to have gone too well for trump. His lead lawyer Alina Habba's behavior could even make one start to question her competence. Newsweek has an interesting report:
The judge in Donald Trump's New York state fraud case [Justice Arthur Engoron] asked the former president's lawyers on Monday to lower their voices after attorney Alina Habba was "practically yelling" at him, according to a reporter at the courthouse...The judge reportedly sparred verbally with Trump's defense team multiple times during Monday's proceedings, including a reminder to the attorneys that a motion to dismiss the case as a "witch hunt" brought against Trump by James was already denied and affirmed by a New York appellate court.

Engoron also pointedly told the courtroom that "nobody asked for" a jury trial, which means that he alone will preside over the bench trial. The lack of a jury has led to speculation that Abba forgot to properly request one, although she has since denied that it was her fault that a jury is not being used for the trial. Newsweek link

It has been repeatedly speculated that attorney Alina Habba's antics are aimed for an audience of one: trump. She's seen below, seated to the right of trump during yesterday's court session.

Critical questions:
  • Did trump maintain the 'look' the entire time?
  • Will Alina Habba get paid?

Obviously fake as it gives the impression that Trump and Christ are two diffent people.

Jesus is looking quite unsemitic in that drawing.

Now, I'm not a fancy, big-city theologian (*gasp from audience*) but I'm willing to bet that Jesus Christ didn't have Farrah Fawcett hair. The body, maybe. But not the hair.

Does the Jesus swimsuit poster have his nipples sticking out?

FTFY, because she (and several other Trump attorneys) are very much his type!

I'm confused as to how many big the "I made a fool of myself trying to defend a Trump, ruined my own career, and didn't even get paid for it" industry is going to be in a few years seeing as how that's seemingly half the lawyers in America have taken a turn at the job at this point.

Like seriously we keep getting told that Trump keeps finding new rubes to be his lawyer because the lawyers are trying to make a name for themselves but what "name" are they really trying to make?

I suspect that there may be a Dunning-Kruger effect. Each new lawyer has it in their head they can defend Trump because they are smarter and better than all the previous lawyers.

"no damage done" is a stupid argument, but it IS very Libertarian:
it's okay to break all the laws as long the two parties are in agreement - no matter the level of coercion.
Also, Trump explained that his valuation are correct, as the Saudis would buy it at any price. In other words, it's okay that a past and possibly future President is financially beholden to an often hostile power.

Why is Trump pictured with Obi-Wan Kenobi? I didn't know he was a Star Wars fan!

Are these people making a fool of themselves among their prospective clients? The MAGA right wing often has its own parallel economy, and it seems to be a growing market.

You and I might roll our eyes at these buffoons in the unenviable position of trying to defend the World's Most Undisciplined Client, but I imagine being Trump's lawyer builds up positive name recognition in certain circles, even if they don't get paid. Could just be considered an acceptable expense to get stiffed on the bill if it means all the MAGA Jr. candidates are calling you up for their future legal woes (which will surely be numerous).

How much can they afford to pay, though?

Plenty of these grifters have money to spend. Hell, Trump probably could pay his lawyers, he just correctly surmises that he doesn't have to. Trump may be a special case considering he's the God-King of the new American fascist movement, but others probably will actually be required to pay their bills to receive legal services.

I wonder if these people are accepting getting stiffed by Trump as a worthwhile marketing expense

I didn't know Trump knew Kris Kristofferson!
