As I understand it that is not true.

The president of the ABA called for it as an individual. Not the body of the ABA. This was specified during the hearing by the chair.

Your understanding, as has been demonstrated multiple times, is wrong.

"The American Bar Association urges the United States Senate Judiciary Committee (and, as appropriate, the full Senate) to conduct a confirmation vote on Judge Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court of the United States only after an appropriate background check into the allegations made by Professor Ford and others is completed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Wemake this request because of the ABA’s respect for the rule of law and due process under law. The basic principles that underscore the Senate’s constitutional duty of advice and consent on federal judicial nominees require nothing less than a careful examination of the accusations and facts by the FBI.
..."

Your turn.

The US is a waning power descending into a corrupt oligarchical state just like Russia. They control all branches of government now and I don't trust Republican controlled states to hold fair elections, e.g. Georgia.

I have zero faith this ship can be righted anymore.

Yeah, but see, it was only sent by the President of the ABA, and was not signed by all of its members. That means it doesn't count. It's not like the President speaks for the whole organization (actually, the last part is an actual claim that someone made; um, in fact, yes, the President DOES speak for the organization - that's kind of their job)

Of course, the original endorsement also was sent by the President, and in that case, it was the Gold Standard.

PS Has anyone ever noticed that we don't actually USE the gold standard anymore? Because it wasn't working. So why is "the gold standard" used to refer to something ideal?

The power of the senate and the 17th Amendment is a massive problem now as well. 82% of the country is represented by 48 senators and the other 18% has 52. That an untenable problem that is going to continue to widen.

Are you making the claim the body of the ABA held some kind of vote or conference and collectively wrote this statement? The chair of the committee said it was not from the body, but from the individual. The article you've pasted that from also says its a letter from the president. Not a statement from the body.

Given your admitted racism when Obama was in power, I find this very hard to believe.

Just ... no.

It's true.

I was raised in a liberal democrat family, primarily by a feminist (and very intelligent) mother.

Both of my parents and my siblings are all still very passionate liberals and hate Trump with a burning passion. They get quite angry at me for supporting him.

My Presidential voting history:

Gore
Kerry
Obama
Johnson
Trump

In 2012 I couldn't yet bring myself to vote Republican.

Given your admitted racism when Obama was in power, I find this very hard to believe.

I didn't awaken my inner racist until well into 2012, and it really hit its stride in 2013.

I'm asking you to provide evidence that statements have been made by the people you named, and that that statute applies to those statements.

From the transcript yesterday:

My staff reached out to other individuals allegedly at the party: Mark Judge, Patrick Smyth, Leland Keyser. All three submitted statements to the Senate under — under penalty of felony, denying any knowledge of the events described by Dr. Ford.

Dr. Ford’s lifelong friend, Dr. — Miss Keyser, stated she doesn’t know Judge Kavanaugh and doesn’t recall ever attending a party with him.
