That's because you've drawn your Venn diagram differently from them.

Try, "Some non-Muslim infidels draw Muhammad. Some Muslims respond by offending non-Muslim infidels." These particular people don't really see a useful distinction between various kinds of non-Muslims.

Because obviously drawing pictures of Muhammad is the equivalent of genocide. The thing is, nobody will be calling for the Pakistani embassy to be burnt, nobody will be making death threats. I want them to do it because then they'll show the world what idiots they are. Although I guess the media will ignore it, unlike Draw Mohamed Day, for fear of being called Islamophobic.

The holocaust is one of the west sacred cows (probably because it is one of the few cases of genocide in history we can claim to have done something to stop). If drawing mohamed is done to make a point making jokes about the holocaust to make a point seems a reasonable responce. Well more reasonable than some of the alturnatives.

I think it is quite posible draw cartoons of the holocaust that would offend most western christians. That it offends jews as well is probably viewed as a bonus.

This is technically correct. However, there are other possible responses, such as to insult Christianity. Yet it is the Holocaust which is chosen, and not for the first time.

As a result, I do not buy this explanation.

There are a couple of problems with you suggestion.

1)Insulting christianity within islam is tricky. While say the pope would be fair game Jesus is a Prophet of islam.

2)In much of western culture the holocaust is far more of a scared cow than Christianity. Remeber it's the west they are after here not christianity per se. Jesus with erection mostly isn't going to cause problems. Gas chamber victims with errection is from the pov of most western values far worse.

I am curious as to why in response to mostly Scandinavians drawing cartoons about Muhammed, they did not respond by insulting Scandinavian symbols and icons.

Being appalled at the killing of millions of people based on race, religion and sexual orientation is a Western value?
