Montel Williams responds

It really seems that a significant number of "celebrities"--if one wants to call Montel a celebrity--really don't have a conscience. So many are willing to do anything for ratings. (Bring back Johnny Carson!) If sylvia brings in the advertisers, Montel just doesn't seem to care. I suppose he would be relegated down to Trudeau's infomercial sidekick if his show tanked.

i think montel is a piece of trash with or without sb. he pretty much makes money off of making victims of horrible crimes/tradgedies repeat their stories on tv. i very much doubt those people are getting much (if any) money for their appearances. he is making bank.

eta- they arent even uplifting stories about courage or emotional stregnth. he pretty much just focuses on the horrible things people do and not anything else. it seems wrong to me. im sure they sell the guests on the idea that their story will inspire others when its really more of a showcase of how monsterous others can be.

How is it a nation that loves, "Catch the Mother****er," shows like To Catch a Predator, L&O:Orginal/WTF Crim Unit/Extra Crispy/Antibacterial, Criminal Minds, local news exposing fraudulent activities and Court TV has instead shows the embrace the psychic instead of exposing them as frauds, predators, and con-people?

Bingo for me, too. I didn't know who she was until I saw her on Montel years ago, either. He turned me on to her because I always had believed him to be compassionate and believable. I am so disappointed in him now.
Now I think he is either a complete heartless sellout or else he is in too deep and too ashamed to admit it and his pride won't let him back down and dump her. Either way he has lost any honour he once possessed, IMO.
Have you written to the Montel show to express these feelings? Of course, you'll get the standard "Thank you for writing" reply, but the folks producing the show and even Montel himself may eventually get the message if they get enough of these comments.

You said it!

And if he can justify his greed by pointing to a handful of satisfied customers (people think Sylvia helped or comforted them), how is he any different than a drug dealer? I guarantee a drug dealer can find some happy customers.

If you're allowed to ignore the harm you're causing or the consequences of helping a con artist, you're no better than a pusher or a pimp.

Well, I saw a recording of the show. I thought it was going to be Montel trotting out examples of Browne supposedly being right, but it was just the same old nonsense, just in clips. He introduced the "predictions" segment by saying something like "people always ask me if Browne's predictions come true. Well, just watch this!"

I was expecting a carefully selected set of predictions which she happened to get right, but they were just a handful of celebrity break-up predictions for this year, none of which (as far as I know - I don't follow these things) have come true yet. What was that about?

Anyway, I thought it was going to be a bunch of things I would need to examine on the site, but very little of it was.

It was interesting to note that one of the clips was of the woman (it's been discussed on another thread here months ago) who tells Browne that Browne came to her in a dream and said she would win the lottery. Browne said "No, you're not going to win the lottery." They cut away before the part where the woman told Browne that she had told Browne about the dream at a book signing, and Browne had told her the dream meant that she WOULD win the lottery.

In another segment, if I remember correctly, Williams says they are going to show the predictions Browne has made about him. They then show none.

And frankly I am surprised that Browne agreed to let them show segments from back before her cosmetic surgery.

Anyway, it was interesting, but not what I had hoped.

But indeed, the "Kiss off" segment will be addressed on the site. Soon.

I am sure you will say this in the article about the show, but I will say it anyway.

"...people always ask me if Browne's predictions come true. Well, just watch this!"

These clips do not show any decent hits. So what does that say about her abilities?

Also The vampire asked above "Is it me, or are there fewer new episodes being taped shown this year?"

This question has not yet been answered in this thread. I too would like an answer. I have changed the wording of the question.

From my desk--if anyone needs a perfectly bizarre and chilling soundtrack at the moment, check out Peter Gabriel's tune (and video) called "The Barry Williams Show" from his fairly recent album called "Up." Some of you might know it, so I apologize. Those that don't really listen to Peter Gabriel might need to know he's a long standing theatrical and musical rock artist from the UK. This song is hard to figure out to me, but it's part parody and part serious. I think he was talking about Jerry Springer but he got the tone just right.

Montel just began his new season of shows. Over the summer all you will see are reruns. I do know that SB has already made 2 trips to the Montel show for tapings in the past month and she usually tapes 4 to 6 shows each trip depending on whether she's there for 2 days or 3. So we should be seeing new ones each Wednesday for a while.

So to answer your question, I don't believe we'll be seeing fewer new episodes. In fact, in light of what Montel said on his show yesterday, I'm assuming it will be business as usual.

RSL - I agree with you about the cosmetic surgery. The earlier years that he showed with SB she looks really bad. In fact, it's almost difficult to tell that it's the same person. She's apparently had a LOT of work done. Did you catch the nose? Wow! They've removed at least half of her face just through the nose alone!

I wonder if she's ever stated that she's never had plastic surgery? That would be interesting to follow up on.

Yes...the most important use of one's psychic power is predicting celebrity break-ups. It is far more important than, say, pin-pointing BinLadin's location.

Yep, I have. Several times. And yep, I get the standard email reply. But you are right that they may take notice if they get lots of complaints so I write periodically.

I think the fact that he feels the need to have a show like this indicates Robert that you have Montel running uncomfortably about Sylva. He's getting defensive, which means he is feeling the attacks.

Keep them coming.

The real way to tell the efficacy of your complaints, or the value of his guests to the audience, is to watch the commercials. As long as the sponsors continue to support the show, the show will continue along its current trend. The trick is not to just protest to the show, but to the sponsors you see on the commercials.

Also you can also infer from the commercials the intended audience. If you see the commercials (and the demographic) shifting from, say, nice car commercials, to cheap loans commercials, even though the show keeps airing, you know something is afoot with the sponsor confidence and audience.

I was also surprised to see Sylvia before her cosmetic surgery. Wow did she look different. I hate to say it but she does actually look a little better now.
I didn't know about the whole story of the lady who hoped to win the lottery. They cut that part where Sylvia said she'd win it? Wow, what a huge surprise! Well, maybe it is, in a way. After all, since he knows about Rob's site I am a bit surprised that he even used that segment because he should know that somebody out here knows the whole story and will make it known on the site. Really, what is Montel thinking???

Montel's ending was no surprise. As long as Sylvia wants to be on she will. Well, the one good thing about that is she will continue to provide more ammunition against herself. And more audience members may take notice of how they are prepped for the show and become suspicious. And it made it obvious that Montel knows he is coming under fire. I guess he thinks it makes him look good to continue to stand by her. Well, maybe he thinks he IS doing the honourable thing. I don't know what is really going thru his head. Maybe he is deluded.

Perhaps...though I suspect that Montel's handlers keep him well shielded. He's obviously bought into her "woo"...be it for $'s, or her "help" when he was gravely ill.

I have to think if it is the later, one day he'll wake up with a "Oh deal lord...what was I thinking!".

If it is the former...all I can say is (as Mike Rowe would put it) he needs to "eat poo and die".

If any of you want to make a real difference in the junk Montel is churning out, don't bother writing the show - write the show's sponsors instead. They will take notice more than Montel's producers.

I think I'll do that. That's a very good suggestion. :)

That's how the Christian Right gets shows canceled, like NBC's, The Book of Daniel. They rallied and inundated the show's sponsors with complaints. If they can do it, we can do the same.

Edit: I do not have a tape of yesterday's show. I didn't bother recording it. If some of you do, PM me with the sponsors of yesterday's show.
