Michele is beautiful and smart. Not only is she a lawyer, but raised 5 biological children and 23 foster children. What do you guys want from a bright over achieving female? Is this the pregnant and bare foot in the kitchen moment? Ladies, if we are not for us, who will be? Oh and it is one Michele with one L.

Now I'm curious. Michele does indeed have nice teeth and hair, dresses well and looks healthy. But can you give us an example of her intelligence or an incident that portrays her as "smart"? Thanks.

As a person who grew up in foster care, I can tell you that's probably NOT a good thing.

Well somebody has to do it and I ain't volunteering.

As bad as that might be, it probably beats being out on the street, no?

If there's a villain here, it's probably the biological parents unless they had a very good reason why they couldn't take care of you (like they were dead or something).

(To say she "raised" them might be a bit of an exaggeration, but she gave them a roof over their heads and meals and sent them to school at least for as long as they were with her.)

I didn't mean to derail this thread to make it about foster parents or foster parenting. Maybe I'll start another topic about it one day.

In the meantime, I just zoned in on "23 foster kids" and that brought back a stream of memories of being warehoused with a dozen or more foster siblings by people who see fostering as a golden cash cow. As a direct result, I'm not impressed when I see someone with a dozen or more kids in addition to their own biological family. Most couples can handle ten kids -although those who have that many are often frowned on these days. But once it gets beyond a number that any two people can reasonably care for "baby farming" is exactly what I perceive.

At $1,000 (or more, for any kid with a diagnosed disorder of any kind) per month per kid -plus many of their expenses, there are people who cheerfully pack 'em in like sardines. They become very wealthy, and the kids are no better off than they would've been at home in most cases.

Of all the many, many, many, many reasons to criticize Michele Bachman, "taking in foster children" seems to be pretty low on the list, unless there was some evidence they neglected or abused the kids.

Why, it's almost as silly as criticizing her for fabricated quotes that were attributed to her!

I find the Onion and Borowitz a lot like Saturday Night Live. Trying to be funny, but falling short. Just my sense of humor I suppose. The one that fooled me a while back though was The Daily Currant. I think their writing is very clever and actually humorous in a roundabout way. I came very close several months ago to posting a new thread based on one of their stories, but did some more googling and realized I'd been had.

I remember someone digging into the story and suggesting her claim to have "raised" these children was not quite accurate. More like, housed them for a while until they were placed in permanent foster homes. Sorry, no links, it was quite a while ago. Not saying she shouldn't be commended for even that effort.
