Marines Urinating on Dead Guys?

It's simple - the boys in MARPAT did something right (the ambush that killed the enemy) then did something contrary to regulations and that whole code of conduct thing that we espouse (peeing or pretending to pee on the corpses of their foes), then did something incredibly stupid (had it videotaped and posted to the web).

While the locals may not like it when you kill the enemy they understand it, and why it happens. When you desecrate and denigrate the body, that's when the population starts going, "Why should I help them?" and the whole "winning hearts and minds" part of every counter insurgency goes right down the crapper.

Off the top of my head, in the Canadian Forces these guys could be charged with:

s.129 - Conduct to the prejudice of good order and discipline; and
s.93 - Cruel or Disgraceful conduct.

Both of which can lead to being dismissed with disgrace from the CF.

You can probably throw in Disobedience of a Lawful Command as well, and maybe Conspiracy.

So you think the President of Afghanistan is worried about looking like a dolt?

You think some Al Queda retard is going to look closer, see it's a "stage play" and then forgive the infidels?

PLEASE tell me you're not that naive.

First of all, what have you heard about the President of Afghanistan and how he is connected to this?

Secondly, you do know that the number of drone attacks has skyrocketed, right? I think Al Qaeda has other things to occupy their attention.

But about the avergage joe muslim. I think word will get to him that it is fake. So, no, I think he will not find a reason in this to go join the fight against the infidels.

Incorrect, where did you get that idea?
Heard it on the radio today, foreign policy wonks discussing the situation with some middle east experts. I've never been there myself, I repeated it here because they sounded like they knew what they were talking about.

While possibly true, the problem is that Muslims in general treat their dead with the utmost respect, even those of their foes.

This may not drive someone into the arms of AQ, however, it is quite possible that it will hurt the relations with the locals that we work so hard to gain the trust of. As someone else said, ITT, about the military guys growing beards, is to gain that rapport with them.

This is going to have an effect on their willingness to work with us.

Here you can see it in higher quality, and can see them all actually urinating (going full screen and looking for the light reflections when there is a shaded background for the stream helps):

Well, that was an interesting five minutes of research :boggled: .

Bill will still claim it is fake. He cannot back down now. Or ever.

because "US soldiers pretended to piss on dead afghanis" is way better than "US soldiers pissed on dead afghanis".

you think it's funny? You should get out more. What interesting question does it raise?

For starters, the behavior is clearly wrong, but how wrong is it? The people are dead, so they're not being harmed. The wrong aspect here is in the bad publicity it creates.

Well his first argument was that peeing on fallen enemies was a natural human reaction. Maybe he'll claim that he mentioned pretending to pee is what he meant.

"Taliban insurgents executed 15 security soldiers who had been recently kidnapped and dumped their bodies on a hilltop in northwestern Pakistan on Thursday, in retaliation for the killing of a militant commander by government forces, government"
https://myaccount.nytimes.com/auth/...apped-pakistani-soldiers.html&OQ=Q5fQ72Q3dQ31

The bodies were naked btw.

I don't think the Taliban has a history of treating dead bodies with respect, quite the opposite as a matter of fact.

Wonder where those 'experts' got the idea. People do find different things offensive in different places, but any muslim would recognise what those guys did as offensive, even more so because it was non muslims doing it to a muslim body.

It is important that a muslim's body is clean when it is buried, part of the ritual is it being washed, so making it unclean, especially in that manner, sends a forceful statement that the guys were being abusive deliberately.

It's sad as it's a vicious cycle. I'm sure those guys would have been protesting loudly at the terrible scenes of abuse to US bodies that we have seen. So weren't they hypocrites to do the exact same things?

I feel really sorry for the next US soldiers to get captured. I'm sure their families will wish those three morons had kept their dicks in their trousers.

"So weren't they hypocrites to do the exact same things?"

Another spin of the cycle of life that humans can't seem to escape.

Yeah, but we have brains, so I live in hope that one day someone will say 'we have our standards, we will not stoop to your level and retaliate in that way'. That would be a fine example, one to be respected. Do I think it will happen? Nope :(

Yeah, I hoped that for a long time too... not any more.
