Marines Urinating on Dead Guys?

Didn't think this topic would get so many responses and debate. Seems black and white to me. Marines urinating on dead bodies is despicable and their behavior should not be tolerated. They should get the max punishment. What else is there to say or argue about?

And on a scale of 1 to 10, how despicable is shooting people in a systematic way whom you do not know ?

This urination issue upsets you? Does war not upset you? Why would this issue trigger disgust and, correct me if I am wrong, this war or war itself did not?

I would also really like you to explain to me how dead Talaban bodies demand respect.

Or...you could look at it as indicative of the extreme stress these people are under and get them some help.

Exactly.

I have been to war. They don't need help, they need punishment. There is no excuse for what they did.

I am not too sure what you are talking about. We are at war and the Taliban is the enemy. I didn't say I like it, but we are at war nonetheless. In war, you kill people. What is SUPPOSED to happen is once you kill the enemy you treat the dead with respect. There are stiff rules against this sort of behavior, and those marines who broke the rules should get stiff consequences.

I don't care if they're good or bad guys or if it was justified

they're 100% retarded for doing that because it created more hate in the region and gave Taliban propaganda ammunition

but what do you expect from someone who runs and guns for a living...

Strictly as a observation on that single point, not as an excuse.

Doing inappropriate things is a known cathartic response to stressful situations. It can take the form of gallows humor, or of grotesque actions. It isn't the only way to process a crisis, but it happens, and not just in the military.

Of course, once the regulations are broken, or more precisely, once someone gets caught at it, the organizational response is to treat it as a disciplinary matter, not a mental health issue.

Okay, now I'm confused. So we are supposed to piss on them and THEN KILL THEM?

<<probably a bad joke...>>

;)

I cannot even imagine how annoyed* I'd be if I was in charge of these morons. Not only are they stupid enough to violate rules that shouldn't really need to exist, but they are caught by filming themselves in the act. How are these people capable of operating weapons?

*nearly typed "pissed off" but.. y'know...

Look. Both operate the same way.

You load.
You Fire.
You Aim.

Wait...

Has anyone heard that this has gotten anything more than a passing glance from The Taliban or their supporters or anyone who might support them?

We don't know really. We're not on speaking terms with them.

But, surely we'll figure it out soon enough.

Why would it matter? Does the morality of the behaviour rest on the response of others to it?
