Marine Corps General would house gay and straight soldiers seperately

Somehow I managed through college dorms without snorkeling my room-mates.

Actually, I think I'd feel in more danger sleeping in the same room with a repressed homosexual :p .

I guess it would depend on said repressed homosexual's taste. One of my Roomies in the Army was gay and he didn't try anything with either of us.

Coffee, meet keyboard!

H'm -- on a totally logical level, wouldn't having all-gay dorms make homosexual sex MORE common, not less common? What we really want here to prevent sex is two room-mates: two heteroes or else a gay and a lesbian...

Nothing?

Do you think he should have?

I was in the Marine Corp for 6 years...and IMO this would be a terrible idea. IMO segregation would create a far worse atmosphere than the current DADT. The Marine Corp already has very strict harassment regulations in place. If harassment takes place...in either direction....it should be dealt with in the normal fashion...swiftly.

Sort of gives the lie to the idea that it's no one's business but your own, and you should keep it to yourself, when everyone can tell because you have to live in the queer dorm. I think they'll find that segregation based on sexuality is just as bad an idea as segregation based on skin color. Ideally, I'd like to see gender and sexuality de-emphasized in the military to the point where it didn't matter what your fellow soldier had in their pants or shirt.

I've heard claims that the military is the stomping ground for the religious right. We'll see how this one plays out.

Not you, obviously, but why do some straight men assume that gays are ready to £$*% anything in trousers? Wishful thinking?

Do they also assume that all straight men want to £$*% anything in a skirt?

I think if a person is good enough and disciplined enough to serve in the US Marine Corp I would suggest he/she can sleep anywhere they want to.

Rather than being worried if you are going to be hit on. I would suggest the average solider in any army on this planet is more concerned with the guy beside him having his back when the heat is on

"Yes, Senator...There's "A" company billets, "B" company, and "C" company, and over there, the pink one...That's "G" company...."

Terrific idea.

Maybe he's been influenced by Inglorious Basterds, and plans to send an all-gay squad of homocidal lunatics to Iran.

there is nothing scarier than a military guy or body builder...who hasn't come to accept their gay or bi feelings. yikes!!

Well, when I was in boot camp, we had a guy who talked to our officer and asked her because he was gay if he could have a different shower time.

With this I have no problem since it's something he asked and we're talking about a very frightened 18 year old (I heard them talking and he was almost crying). But this would be the exception and not the rule.

Note that there other gays and nobody had any problems with them sleeping in the same tent or showering together.

I always wonder, has anyone bothered doing a survey to ask what actual marines think? Not just the higher ups, but the those throughout the core.

From the article:
"I would not ask our Marines to live with someone that's homosexual if we can possibly avoid it," Marine Commandant Gen. James Conway told a Web site in an interview posted Friday. "And to me that means we've got to build [barracks] that have single rooms."
I don't interpret this as segregating gays and straights (which would be preposterous as well as wrong), but as giving everybody a private room (which is perfectly sensible).

I don't get it either.

Sensible maybe, practical hell no.
Private room in barracks?
If you're really lucky once you're done with your basic training/boot camp/whatever, you'll get one. But large bays and shared showers are still the norm in most places.

If they're going to put all the homosexuals in one barracks, I think it only fair that hetero males and females get another set of barracks to share.

When I went through basic, the activity level led to exhaustion was such that even an intimate moment with myself was pretty much out of the question. I've got 4-5hrs a night to sleep, I used it all for sleep. Luckily the days before graduation were calm enough that I had plenty of energy to share with my then future-wife and have a good time ;)
