Mandatory Military Service?

We have to seriously wonder what would have happened if surrounding nations and Germans themselves had tried to disrupt the draft in Germany long before the Second World War.

You mean like what would have happened if the other great forces in Europe had set an upper limit of, say, 100 000 men for the size of the German army?

I don't claim any real knowledge of any example from history but perhaps an attempt at restriction to a purely volunteer force might have been enough for Germany, I don't know.

I freely admit to having no real idea of specific examples. :)

My aim by posting was to remind supporters of the draft that they support the means by which many of history's greatest criminals have raised a significant part of their armies.

Supporters of the draft often ask what bad things would have happened if the draft had never existed in their own country, I'm asking what good things would have happened if it didn't exist in any country, theirs included.

I believe the draft is something that we should be trying to eradicate worldwide if possible and not something to encourage in any way.

How that eradication might be done seems a worthwhile challenge and something to investigate at least as much as attempts at restriction of weapons of mass destruction.

Let's just say that history has proved that it wasn't.
