London's "No-Go" areas.

Damn. I have to travel from the peaceful depths of leafy Surrey to Kensington this evening.

Now I'm terrified, especially as I'm going close to the no go zone that is Buckingham Palace.

I don't own any body armour, or a machine gun.

Do I cancel, or hire bodyguards?

You may, or may not, be pleased to know I seem to have made it unscathed.

On the train back to Guildford so as long as I make it to my car I should be able to go back to cowering in my quiet village.

I did see some foreign looking people but they were too busy striking terror into some cowardly cops so didn't bother me.

And the duck was excellent.

When I visit London I have the advantage of being able to park either at my Sisters in Kew or at an ex colleagues place in Earls Court.

As an aside, Earls Court was a virtual No-Go area back in the old days if you weren't Australian. Or, Market Road just off Caledonian Road if you weren't an Australian trying to sell your VW Combi that you had lived in for the last six months while you bummed around the UK.

And can sleep safely.

Phew!

I do notice that in No-Go area Islington 'Ram Books' (webuyanyporn.com) "For the Collector of the Bizarre and Exotic" at 66 Holloway Rd is still there and Zeitgiest 'Specialist Clothing' next door is now called 'Atsuko Kudo Couture Latex Design'

That’s more Highbury than Islington. Only a no-go area if you’re wearing a Tottenham shirt.

When I was working in the West End they had one in the same building as us on New Oxford Street on the north edge of Soho and they certainly have offices at Paddington in Little Venice.
That's the one I was thinking of. I haven't been there in years, and I'm not sure they're still there. Kingdom street is the HQ now, the satellites may have been consolidated.

Looks like it was more of a protest than anything else. And not an ongoing issue.

"Worshippers began praying on the roads in March to protest the closure of a local mosque which was turned into a library."

Never really heard of a similar thing in the UK.

ps. Limey should be capitalised, silly yank.
That would never happen in Britain, the conservatives are too busy closing down libraries.

How such lies get started:

"A Christian Nation cannot put up a Christmas scene of the baby Jesus in a public place, but the Muslims can stop normal traffic every Friday afternoon by worshiping in the streets [of NY]… Something is happening in America that is reminiscent of what is happening in Europe . This is Political Correctness gone crazy…"

The reality:

"The photos were taken in New York City but this is not a weekly event. Once a year the Muslim Foundation of America organizes a Muslim Day Parade event that includes a gathering of Muslims at the corner of Madison Ave and 41st Street for Zahur prayer."

This has been an annual event since 1985 and the 25th annual event is slated for September 26, 2010."

And the annual event is ongoing.

So, maybe not totally unlike St Patrick's Day, or something.
About one ten-thousandth of the size though. And fewer drunks.
