Time in the Garden of Eden was eternal time... "a day unto the Lord, after his manner of reckoning, it being one thousand years according to the time appointed unto that whereon thou standest. "

Our earth time of a thousand years is but a day in the Lords time.

DragonLady, and Nay Sayer: The above is perfectly clear and simple, however, if you really need more explanation follow the link and the references. http://www.lds.org/scriptures/gs/kolob.t1?lang=eng&letter=k

When banished from the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve entered the world of mortality where time was reckoned as of our earth time. While within the Garden of Eden the reckoning of time was as the Lord's time, or "eternal" time.

So now God has his own time that we've made up to avoid facing the rather blatantly obvious narrative problem with an omnipotent being making mistakes and needing "do overs?"

Sheesh.

So I have a question. How does God (all powerful, all good, all knowing, and so forth) have a vastly less powerful arch-nemesis?

God should be able to defeat Satan, no? So any evil that Satan is the cause of God must be okay with. Unless Satan is as powerful or nearly as powerful as God, which of course carries its own questions.
It is sad but true that Lucifer is "a son of the Morning" in other words one of our Heavenly Fathers elder sons. Jesus was the first born Spiritual child, and had progressed to Godhood even whilst still a Spiritual being without a resurrected immortal body. Adam, who was Michael in our pre-mortal existance, was younger than Lucifer but had also progressed further than him. Lucifer wanted more power and glory and envied Jesus and Adam. He was furious when Heavenly Father rejected his proposals and accepted Jesus and Adam and the Plan of Salvation they offered for our Heavenly Father's Spirit children. This envy and jealousy led to the rebellion of Lucifer and his followers against Heavenly Father, Jesus and their followers. We won and were rewarded with having the choice to obtain mortal bodies while Lucifer and his followers lost and were cast down to earth with no hope of progression. Instead they will continue to regress until their Spiritual bodies are no longer and they are back as in the begining as an Intelligence only. Frustrated and angry they do all they can to try to destroy our chances of further progression.

And at no point did anything you said come even remotely close to resembling anything that could even be mistaken for something that might be an answer to my question.

You could have posted a chocolate chip cookie recipe and it would have addressed my question equally well.

This: according to the time appointed unto that whereon thou standest is neither clear nor simple.
To me it is meaningless word salad dribble.

Since you think it clear and simple, can you rephrase it for me so I understand what it means?

Will I ever get sick of Good Guy Lucifer? All signs point to no.

Ughm...not to be dense or anything, but...ughm....

In the above quote would "our" mean all humans? Because, if it does, most humans have been cheated. Graveyards 'round the world proclaim that a person who lives 100 years is doing is well. Even if "our" only means LDS, so far every LDS on Earth has been cheated!

You're saying we should have "Earth time" of a thousand years. I'm asking where 900 of mine are? Maybe JS buried them on that hillside? Maybe Moroni has 'em under his feathers?

You said "Look to eternity". But I'm not asking about eternity. I'm not asking about the Lord's time. I'm asking where, exactly, do I find those 900 extra years of Earth time so that I can spend them working in my garden breeding the perfect turnip and collecting all the original works of Van Gogh?

Dragon Lady: Time is the subject, not ones mortal lifetime. When we return from whence we came it will be as if we had been away for just a few moments, instead of having experienced a lifetime of mortality. A day of time in our Pre Mortal existance equated to one thousand years on earth.:)

No, Janadele. When we die, we will be concious of nothing. Even the Bible concedes that. We live less than 150 years, at the absolute best. We are dead for eternity.

Ecclesiastes 9:5
For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not anything, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.

Read this and see a most human way of thinking.

It like a soap opera.

Janadele, none of this is real.

BTW: This is one of my pet peeves when it comes to the Mormon Church. No attempt at any historical context. It's as if Joseph Smith accepted the contemporary view of Christianity and pretends there is no relevant scholarship, history and/or archeology that contradicts that view.

As previously noted, Lucifer (Satan, the Devil ) and his pre-mortal followers are all Spiritual children of our Heavenly Father, as are we.

Janadele, as mainly a lurker on this thread, it has become a fascinating thread to read, and follow the interesting and varied points. Since you have not contributed anything interesting or relevant to the discussion, why don't you just accept that this has gone way beyond what you are willing to offer or capable of offering and withdraw gracefully and allow the adult discussion to continue.

Throwing in a pious irrelevant statement every now and then simply disrupts the flow of the thread and does nothing for your credibility.

Scriptures which have no translation errors.

From what were they translated, and how do you know there were no errors?

How are you doing with clearing up this gem for me :

according to the time appointed unto that whereon thou standest
What in the name of peppermint patty does that mean?
