Some older evidence from the Bluff Creek area just showed up on Cryptomundo...

Looks like some of these are Wallace variants.

Wow, those are folk art masterpieces. Please tell me Meldrum has none of these in his "yes" collection.

He is supposed to have about 200 casts in his collection. We never hear anything about any of them being declared fake by him. He certainly does have Wallace fakes in his collection and speaks of them as authentic.

If the carved wooden track-makers were used a lot they would probably abrade and change somewhat over time. Wallace seems to have carved some toes with rounded bottoms that probably become more flat and squarish with wear.

And if Wallace was selling carved foot souvenirs then all sorts of people may have hoaxed using his alderfeet.

Meldrum's rationalizes the Wallace stompers were based on Titmus' castings of authentic Bigfoot tracks, instead of Titmus' Bigfoot tracks formed by Wallace stompers.

Meldrum also believes that the swaying trees fan the air thereby causing wind... ;)

I used to think that the people best equipped to evaluate bigfooty claims were wildlife biologists like me; now I realize that people who specialize in personality profiling are in a much better position to call a spade a spade when it comes to bigfootery.

Certainly made my day. :)

The enormous handicap that conscientious people operate under is the mistaken projection of their own personality onto others.

Understanding this is a matter of life and death. The disordered are practicing their craft every day, honing it to the best of their abilities over decades. It allows monsters like Ted Bundy to trick pretty co-eds into helping him kidnap, rape, kill, and eat them.

He was a governor's assistant, a highly regarded crisis line counselor, and had a fiancé completely in the dark while on a long murderous rampage. Unless you are both trained in the science and have sufficient observation time you will be fooled by such people because fooling people is their profession.

It isn't to say 'footer personalities are Ted Bundies (stating this to forestall the obvious logical fallacy an individual here will otherwise attempt to use). It is to say that this is how monstrous a person can be while receiving glowing reports from untrained, naiive people who have not only met them but know them to the extent of sleeping or working with them on nearly a daily basis.

They gravitate to various platforms to operate from, whether that is bigfootery, mind-reading, scientology, or working as a code enforcement officer like the BTK killer. Some are devastating to society while others are no more than a nuisance.

But the tactics they use are all exactly the same whether it is a garden variety narcissist, an emotional vampire, a snake in a suit, or a serial killer. All that differs is their objective. It might be the cheap thrill of manipulating you into responding to a trolling post, or it might be to kill and eat you.

Interestingly, these personalities and characters are intentionally replicated in 'pro wrestling' which is fantasy stage performance. The audience (who are essentially believers during the match) want and need heroes and villains to make a fantasy world. Bigfoot hoaxers and liars fill these niches knowing that even a poor transparent attempt will be acceptable.

Bigfoot hoaxers don't need to be anywheres near excellent - they only need to be there.

Interesting thought. I loathed pro wrestling because I was doing the real thing, but I watched Andy Kauffman's antics with glee when he was doing his bouts with Jerry Lawler.

Kaufman was so absurd, so over the top that you would think anyone with a functioning medulla oblongata would see. But no. I recommend seeing the youtube videos of this hilarious set of Lawler bouts. I still laugh thinking about it.

Kaufman achieved what nobody else could: to simultaneously entertain people who knew it was a hoax, while at the same time drawing in the regular pro wrestling fans. There was a genius there that we have not seen in bigfootery to date.

At the time I could not believe how stupid the pro wrestling fans were, but your comment changes my perspective on that. It has something to do with this need for the fantasy as opposed to being strictly about intelligence.

I think maybe the Georgia Boys Bigfoot In A Freezer was this. There were Bigfooters who did seem to believe it was (going to be) real until the face was revealed. Loren Coleman appeared to believe and promote it even after seeing the photo before it was made public. He then rapidly back peddled. But I don't think any skeptic or denialist ever thought it would be genuine.

I wouldn't call that hoax genius but it did work to a certain extent. The membership at the BFF increased tremendously right away. I think they got many hundreds (thousand?) of new folks on board in just less than a week. The traffic blew up so much that they had to take drastic steps to keep the forum running.

Yes, and what they lacked for an exact paralell with Andy Kaufman's work was outrageous, satirical comedy.

I'm no comedian like Andy was, but it would have been nice if they had given their bigfoot an enormous schlong or something. It could have had the skeptics rolling on the floor laughing while at the same time sending the 'footers off to open up an institute for bigfoot weiner studies.

The more I think about your pro wrestling parallel the more I agree with it. Nothing was too absurd for the pro wresting fans, and nothing is too absurd to shake bigfootery. It's just on to the next villain or on to the next 'footer gimmick.

They gave it a big tongue sticking out of horse teeth. It also had opossum guts hanging out of the belly. I don't remember if they gave it genitals. Anyway it looked totally ridiculous and they must have had to stifle their own laughs. Before they revealed the body they had a series of absurd and obviously clowning videos on YouTube.

It was obvious that it would be a hoax but we all still wanted to see what they had produced. That kind of hoax could never be repeated with the same kind of worldwide attention.
