KSM to be tried in NYC

I don't think so. I think the trial could be very positive for America if KSM makes a real attempt to defend himself and he has good representation. However it would not surprise me if he just tanks it like McVeigh. We'll see parky....Thanks

Whoa.

Are you calling Tim McVeigh a patsy?

Because if so, that was your one guy. That was the guy who had the courage of his beliefs in the NWO and Gov't oppression and tried his best to do something about it. That was your one guy trying to actually start a revolution and hit the Federal Government where it hurt.

Everyone else is just talk.

He didn't "tank" his defense. He stood up for his beliefs. He blew up the Morrow Building in an attempt to start to a revolution against the US Government. He did that, and he was proud of that he did. When it didn't turn out how he hoped, he didn't whine or cry about it, he took his punishment like a man.

When it comes down to it, Tim McVeigh was, in his way, a stand-up guy, albeit a horribly misguided one. I'm really, really glad there aren't more CTers like him.

ETA: What I'm saying here is that, if you truely believe in oppressive government conspiracies, Tim McVeigh should be your Patrick Henry, your Guy Fawkes, your Sparticus. If he is just another patsy, then that says as much about your side than the great conspiracy.

Tim MacVeigh, unlike 9-11 truthers, actually stood by his word and fought for his beliefs. i believe he was very very very wrong, and maybe a bit crazy, but at least he had balls.

anyone think KSM should be released if he is somehow found innocent?

i believe, like any other POW, if he is indeed found innocent of ALL charges of terrorism, he should be held in a military prison, until the DOD decides that the conflict with Al-Qaeda and other Islamic extremists is indeed minimal to non-existant.

and then KSM would have to swear to Allah to never participate in an attack against the USA or any other civilian target again.

We sometimes ask what planet these people are on. It's not much of an exaggeration; their view of reality is so distorted, they might as well live in a separate world.

You know... given the typical truthers' baffling misunderstanding of even basic physics, I'd say that, not only are they from a different planet, but they are quite likely from an entirely different universe.

The "shoot the planes down" scenario is also a no-win situation. I doubt anyone believes that, had Bush ordered the planes to be shot down, that there would be even less controversy today. It would be WORSE! It'd be even more of an "inside job" mentality, if nothing else happened but planes being shot down. No attacks anywhere.. instead of heroically saving those thousands of lives at ground zero and the pentagon, it'd be "OMG, BUSH SHOT DOWN CIVILIAN PLANES BECAUSE THEY WERE SUPPOSEDLY "HIJACKED"!!1". "OMG WHERE IS THE EVIDENCE?" "BUSH KILLED HUNDREDS OF CIVILIANS FOR NO REASON!!".

This is just a complete no win situation. Those who are inclined to believe in madness will always find some form of madness to embrace.

Exactly. It's a classic hindsight bias. "OMG why didn't they shoot the planes down before they hit the towers!?!"

You think that a box-cutter or Stanley knife is made of cardboard, and that the hijackers were midgets? If you believe this....you are not very smart.

Specific to the knives, I'd suggest that you walk around after dark in the wrong parts of Glasgow sometime.

Carlitos.

Almost all of my chinese students (over 800 of them in 3 years) carried boxcutters for personal protection. They are easy to buy, small enough to carry easily, and can be used for lots of things.

I was once mugged in china by 4 guys with box cutters. Needless to say my money went one way, while I hurried the other way. And this is from someone who has martial arts experience. But if you listen to twoofs, they could singlehandedly defeat any "midget with a box cutter."

IIRC there have only been (other than 9/11) six? intercepts, and never for a hijacked aircraft. Your argument from incorrect personal beliefs is noted.

Care to elaborate??

Tri.

In the decade before 9/11 there was ONE (just 1) jet intercept over the contential US.

The 88 minutes to intercept Payne Stewards jet. 88 minutes and it took a midair refueling.

JUST ONE.

I used to live in a tough neighborhood, and carried a box cutter almost every day.

I was mugged by a box once and now I never go anywhere without one.

I'm really surprised at the lack of truther outcry on the fact that if KSM is found not guilty, he will still be held as an enemy combatant.http://www.newsday.com/news/new-york/holder-defends-plan-to-try-9-11-terrorists-in-nyc-1.1601873
Holder also indicated that even if acquitted by a jury or released by a judge on a technicality, the terror suspects would not be freed - and possibly held under the laws of war - raising questions by some about the fairness of the trial.
If 9/11 was an inside job, and KSM is a patsy, why are they letting this go unnoticed?

Double posting from another thread on the political forum, but the link is worth looking at. I spent some time plucking bits from the report they cite as well. I had no idea that we have tried so many terrorists in US courts since 9/11.

Since 9/11, we've tried hundreds of suspected terrorists in federal courts (like we are with KSM). Under the Bush administration and of course we've done so before.

Trying KSM in a federal court is not setting any new precedent, nor should there be any worry of leaking critical national security information in the process.

It will cost us money, but the upside is that we get to paint a big clown face on KSM in front of the entire world. Hell, we may even learn some more interesting facts about 9/11.

The current uproar over this is just the idiot sector of the right wing winery making noise because they're upset with Obama.

Given the precedent set by the hundreds of others who have been tried by US courts, I don't think there is anything we have to worry about in this case.

The study, conducted by former federal prosecutors for the rights group, analyzed 119 U.S. court cases filed since September 2001 against 289 people accused of terrorism-related crimes and associated with al Qaeda or other Islamist extremist groups.

Of the 214 defendants whose cases were resolved, 195 -- 91 percent -- were convicted. Many of the acquitted still did not walk free because the government subsequently brought new charges against them or detained them for immigration violations, said the study titled "In Pursuit of Justice."

The authors said the Classified Information Procedures Act, which protects secret information used as evidence, appears to be working because they could find no instance where there was a substantial leak of sensitive information as a result of terrorism prosecutions.

lol, are you Nico Haupt?

more ridiculousness. Got any facts? Got any REAL evidence?

Didn't think so. You couldn't school anyone here on anything.

TAM:)

So you debunkers are finally ready to identify Mosear Caned? This should be big news. Will it be a new thread? Let me know. Then we can get on to the rest.

And if they did do all that, the conspiracy theorists would point out that no terrorists in history have ever done such a thing before, so it's obvious that it's a false flag attack designed to provoke an invasion of Afghanistan, destroy American civil liberties and promote the racial stereotype that Arabs are too stupid to know how to spell "phallic".

Dave

That's the point in my hypothetical senario. They couldn't spell phallic on the banner they hung out the window. Is that why they weren't shot down? Ya think? You debunkers are so smart. The fighter jet pilot wasn't really sure of their intentions because of the hijackers bad spelling. Boy, stupidity really paid of that day huh? So stupid it's genius. Right genius?

and truthers wonder why they get banned at JREF. its almost like they want to get banned, so they can can go back to their truther forums and whine and beat their chests about how they got banned at JREF.

This is interesting. Were any of them not convicted but still held on to because they were still an enemy combatant? Will they be let go once the 100 year war on terror is over? That should make them feel a little better. What is the defining goal that will end the war on terror anyway?

from what I have read, it is illegal to be a member of a terrorist organization. if they can't get convicted of an actual terrorist act, im sure they can get convicted of membership in a terror group.

then we can put them away for that. and they can only be released when a judge feels that the guy is finally ready to be released into society and will play nice with his fellow human beings.

see, life is good yes?

How do you convict someone of being member of a terrorist organization? How do you know they're a member. More importantly how do you know they are an organization? Do they sponsor a NASCAR? To they have a secret handshake?

Seriously, who determines this?
