Arlington Heights, Ill. (AP) Former presidential candidate Alan Keyes has formally announced his run as Illinois Republican Candidate for the US Senate.

Keyes made his announcement this afternoon in Arlington Heights, Illinois.

- snip -

Keyes will face Democratic rising star Barack Obama, and his entry sets up the first US Senate election with two black candidates representing the major parties.

State Republican leaders asked Keyes -- a political commentator who has never lived in Illinois -- to be the party's nominee last week after nearly six weeks of searching for a candidate.

AP misreported, not that that's unusual. Democrat Obama is HALF black, half white man. Republican Keyes is 100% black.

It seems the slightest bit of minority heredity, and people call themselves that just to be cool. It's amazing how many "Native Americans" there are, as well as Jewish people, and now apparently black men, who are largely none of those races except in technicality. Maybe it's something to do with what box one checks that helps get into college, when grades are otherwise lacking.

And now we're to accept that same standard as the $30 street-hooker named Obama sells himself to voters..... I wouldn't vote for a girl who ignores half of her roots that way, and I can't imagine what kind of a loser would!

In a similar vein, you have a lot of nerve calling yourself human.

Dear Mr. Keyes,

Hillary Clinton and Liddy Dole are sending you an invitation to an exclusive club: the Carpet Baggers. Membership in the club will not cost you a single dollar, just your integrity and the dignity of your party's voters in the state you are packing your bag for.

Welcome Aboard

Note: Alan Keyes criticized Clinton for being a carpet bagger. So he is also a member of the "Big Fat Hypocrit Club".

In the american reckoning, that makes Obama black, although there is a growing movement, opposed for obvious reasons by black leaders, by such persons to identify themselves as "mixed race" instead of black. Further, Keyes may not be 100% black - the average black in the U.S. has 25% white heritage.

The college admissions dodge is probably very likely. Lots of the born-again "native americans" are eager for that status to cash in on the gambling monopolies.

That this Obama is a "rising star" is pure refined media BS hype - if they wanted genuine rising stars they would have taken note of Keyes long ago, who is something of an intellectual and gives riveting speeches (although speaks a little too loudly), although he is disqualified from LME "rising star" status due to the fact that he is a conservative.

Membership in the club may be vetoed by Lurch, president of the club, whose residential galloping around in Massachusetts for elective office purposes has an amusing history.

What's amazing is that they couldn't find a black guy in Chicago, they had to go out of state.

Speaking of Crapet Baggers. I always thoughtteh Bushs were from Conneticut. Now one is Gov of Florida, and the other was Gov of Texas.

As for Keyes, doesnt he still need a residence in Illinois??

Yeah - by election day.

The whole residency issue is silly. Bobby Kennedy came to New York in 1966 to run for the senate. Once upon a time, having to reside in a state was a serious impediment to carpetbaggers. Now you can just hop a plane, buy an apartment, and lease it to someone on your campaign staff; eventually you sell it for a tidy profit.

As far as the Bushes go, George actually does own a home in Crawford, Texas, and has lived in Texas practically his entire life. Or are you saying you shouldn't be allowed to move and run for office in a state other than your parents'?

Many of the 'serious charges' levelled against current candidates simply sound like reruns of the Kennedy years.

Carpetbagging? Close elections with suspect vote counts? Scandals involving drinking and driving? Appointing cronies and family members to high office? Politics and business as usual? White House dalliances? Pursuing disastrous war policies? Invading foreign countries without UN mandate (or sucess)? Clothes horse First Ladies?

Odd that the magic of Camelot makes all of these antics palatable to so many, who then claim to find them odious when practiced by non-Kennedys.

Excuse me? Keyes is in his mid-fifties. He's had one career as a diplomat whose greatest accomplishment it seems was opposing sanctions against S. Africa. He's run for president twice and had his a$$ handed to him both times (wasn't he the one shut out of the Republican debates?), and for which he paid himself $100,000 out of campaign contributions. The only thing "rising" about Alan Keyes (besides the blatant hypocracy of ignoring his own strict conception of federalism and carpetbagging to another state) is probably his speaking fee, which will no doubt get quite a boost.

Is Teresa Heinz Kerry an African-American?

Actually, Bobby was far mor a New Yorker than a real Bostonian. He spent a great deal of his youth in NYC, I think he went to elementry school in NYC. John ran from Boston because of the political legacy of the Grandfather, it was a place where the Kennedy and Fitzgerald names were well known. This isn't to say that Bobby wasn't a "carpetbagger", merely to suggest that there was a substantive connection to New York.

Oh, Keyes also ran for the senate twice and lost. Not to mention that the Republican party in Illinois courted Keyes only after political powerhouses like Mike Ditka(!) turned them down. And yet the liberal media refuses to proclaim Keyes a "rising star!" Go fig...

Hey, well look at Lurch: He had mailing addresses in three congressional districts in 1972. He and Dirt Bag had a house in Worcester where he considered challenging a democrat incumbent. They never lived in the house. BZZZZZTT!!! Brainflash - lets try another district - he rented an aprtment in Lowell. Trying to show he had "roots" in that district, he said "I learned to walk in the fifth district" - referring to the one year he spent there as a toddler - that sure must have given him the local pulse, right?.

You're excused. Keyes was a Foreign Service Officer for US State Department during 1979-83. He was Ambassador to the U.N. Economic and Social Council, Assistant Secretary of State for International Organizations, and Interim President of Alabama A&M University. He has a Ph.D. in Government Studies from Harvard University. And Obama? Well, he's a ... er .... rising star. Me too! I have plans to be King of France! :D
