I don't know about Clancie, but I am "playing defense" for honesty in the media.
Yes, that's my purpose, too, Zero. I'm very tired of the bias I see in media, especially the unlabelled editorial comments by many tv "journalists" who are supposed to be reporting facts.
I've come to the same conclusion about the "Bush AWOL" situation as well, BTW.
Well, we disagree there, I guess,. Originally, I felt it was a non-issue, too (mainly because it would be no surprise to me if the young GWB -was- a bit of a goof-off, and...so what?

).
But, watching his inability to answer the direct question, "Did you actually show up for your required service in Alabama?" has changed my mind.
Bush ran in 2000 on his "character" and honesty which was, supposedly, so much better than Clinton's. Well, since that's his claim...character and honesty...then I think it -is- an issue if he can't give an honest answer to a simple question.
"I have paycheck stubs" and "I got an honorable discharge" just are -not- answers to the question, "Did you fulfill your National Guard service in Alabama?"
After all...he was given the privilege of being admitted to the Guard...the privilege of getting out 8 months early (so he could enjoy the privilege of being accepted into Harvard, despite his mediocre grades)...and the special privilege of being allowed to go to Alabama to do what he wanted (work on a campaign) and still meet Guard service on weekends.
If he
didn't even complete this minimal requirement (even while giving lip service to a war that other men were -dying- for)...and he is -dishonest- about not serving in even this minimal way...well, yes, I think that's a legitimate character issue.
