Bummer. Stay safe.
I have just downloaded the Rock and roll one. Will look when I get home.Anyone any opinions on this series - just had a notification email that they were free: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dr.-Vook/e/B004TBKMGI/ref=ntt_dp_epwbk_0

Out of curiosity, is your Kindle in a cover, so that it looks like a book?
Oh, and in passing, for UK readers - have you seen the Kolourbooks app?
http://kolourbooks.appspot.com/
It gives you a nice layout of the free books on the UK Amazon site, and if you click on the icon at the top right you can see the covers - great way to scan them

Thanks--looks useful. By the way, here's the site for US Amazon:

I had a quick look. It is more of a leaflet than a book. Around 30 pages in total (less for those with better eyes than me). Seems to fly though the topic with a page and a half on each subject then a feature about one element.I have just downloaded the Rock and roll one. Will look when I get home.
Has anyone tried Lendle?
This site was mentioned in the LA Times article about libraries and Kindle linked to about a page ago.
Apparently, you can lend books to people for a 14 day period. Looks interesting and cheap!
I love my new Kindle. I think I've read more books in the last 3 weeks I've had it than I have in the last 3 years.
Ooohh, I've always hated that about magazines. I've heard there's a marketing reason behind it (memory fails as to what exactly the reason is), but I've always found it just plain annoying. This is so annoying. I'm trying to read an paper magazine (free inquiry, if it matters), and every firging column and op-ed has a mandatory page jump, including the letters. I just want to read what I'm reading, not flip around looking for pages, then try to remember where I was and backtrack. Kindle for the win!
I downloaded a few, including this one, and I've just had a look at it. I think they're a waste of time. Just one example, punk doesn't get mentioned until the section on the 80s, and there is no mention of the Sex Pistols, Clash or in fact any British punk band.I have just downloaded the Rock and roll one. Will look when I get home.
Amazon began selling hardcover and paperback books in July 1995. Twelve years later in November 2007, Amazon introduced the revolutionary Kindle and began selling Kindle books. By July 2010, Kindle book sales had surpassed hardcover book sales, and six months later, Kindle books overtook paperback books to become the most popular format on Amazon.com. Today, less than four years after introducing Kindle books, Amazon.com customers are now purchasing more Kindle books than all print books - hardcover and paperback - combined.
