John Edward - psychic or what?

Roger, Did the quote have any special meaning to you as in regarding something going on in your life that it could apply to?

Or you blew it with your silly "I've got soopermagic mind powers" act. Tsk tsk tsk.

Or maybe again your explanation fails, having to add a detail that is not there. We had discussed this several times before and she believed in it.

It's not like it's out of the ordinary to believe in it.

A majority of Americans - 57% - say they believe in psychic phenomena such as ESP (Extra Sensory Perception), telepathy or experiences that can’t be explained by normal means.

Even if it did, why would that be important?

I suspect you missed the point of my post. If I were to attach significance to the quote it would be because my mind, like all our minds, are very good at making connections, not because of some cosmic magic.

And, in any case, oft-quoted quotes tend to be oft-quoted because they resonate with many people. :-)

Argumentum ad populum. Seriously?

:nope:

Sounds to me like the quote did have meaning to you : )

Which , of course, would then mean that your mailing was a "sign" to confirm a little bit of support being offered to you...from beyond ; )

No. It means you are now making connections for other people and calling even that proof. Your standards of proof are abysmally low, and your skeptical knowledge is poor, despite your claims otherwise.

Well, at the moment, I am reading this thread and watching Monday Night Raw at the same time. That must be a sign of something as well, according to your way of thinking. Oh, and the sun is shining. Make what you will of that. Coincidence? I think not.

Most of the ancient Romans believed that the god Jupiter existed.

http://www.skepdic.com/subjectivevalidation.html

Subjective validation is the process of validating words, initials, statements, or signs as accurate because one is able to find them personally meaningful and significant. [...]

Subjective validation is an essential element of any successful cold reading done by astrologers, palm readers, tarot readers, mediums, and the like. The sitter in such readings must cooperate. Fortunately for the medium, most sitters are usually eager for the reader to succeed and are willing to work hard to find personal meaning in whatever the reader throws out. In a successful cold reading, the sitter will be convinced that the accuracy of the reading was not due to her ability and willingness to cooperate but rather to the powers of astrology, palmistry, tarot, or mediumship.

Sitters are often very compliant. A medium will say he senses a father figure trying to contact him from the spirit world and the sitter has only to find someone to fit the bill. It need not be the sitter's father. So, when the sitter identifies this father figure as her deceased husband, the medium is validated by the subject. The medium is validated by the subject when the medium says she is getting the message "I do not walk alone" and the sitter makes sense out of this by seeing it as a communication from a departed soul who was in a wheelchair before she died. There may be thousands of ways to make sense out of an ambiguous stimulus like the name 'Michael' or the expression 'broken wheel' but all it takes is for the sitter to find one and the medium is validated.

A better description of Robin would be hard to find.

I sense that Robin knows somebody deceased whose name begins with D. Or J. The spirit of that person is with me now.

Meg, yes but... : ) If you remember the first post where I explained why I thought those stories were connected and important...God only knows where that post is, I don't even know which thread I am responding to anymore. Anyway ,I explained that I dreamt some insignificant but not knowable fact about my friend. I turned out to be right (mostly) and my friend couldn't believe it. I asked my Dad how I could have known that and in a dream he said that spirits can impress thoughts on people (free will remains) . The Big Mac and pina colada happened after he gave me that explanation so for me those 2 things were just his way of proving what he said and again confirming to me it really was him talking to me in that dream.

You have had many more dreams which were wrong, but you ignore them, don't you?

Here's a fun one that also shows ( I won't say proves out of fear of the response) the Other Side has quite a sense of humor in addition to just wanting to let us know their soul lives on. My Dad died in 2007 well before Sarah Palin became a huge well-known figure. My Mom (no jokes please) looooovvvvvvvveeeeeedddd her. My Dad, if he had been alive would have looooooooooooovvvvvvvvvveeeeedddd her just as much.
A very popular book was then born about her life (can't remember the name offhand). It had very long waiting lists at public libraries. Long after the book is published my Mom gets in the mail a postcard from a library (we didn't belong to or work at) which has my Dad's name on it and says the book he requested from the library about Sarah Palin is now available for him to pick up! My Mom had not put in any reserves for the book.
No other reserves in my Dad's name have come since then.

Here's a couple of facepalms for you, Rem.

To be fair...

...I think batvette gave the survey results not to give weight to the argument that psychic claims are true, but to put forth the statistical probability that the person "called back" was statistically likely to believe in psychic claims, so that such a proposition would not be an immediate "turn off", as some suggested.

Still waiting for an answer to my "angel" question, though!

What does this even mean?
