John Edward - psychic or what?

My coincidence:

Somewhere around twenty years ago I was driving around listening to Eric Clapton's Journeyman cd real loud, and singing along. Right when it got to the refrain of track 10, "I'm at my breaking point.. I'm at my breaaaaaking point.." My brakes went out, and I almost got into a terrible accident as I flew through a red light unable to slow down.

Or maybe a minimum wage worker got his/her wages docked, or had to do some more training, or otherwise got punished for putting into your bag what was meant for the next car.

So which McDonalds employee do you think you "connected" with? The order taker? The maker of the sandwich? The cashier? The fry cook? The manager?

Or is McDonalds all just one big unknowable blob in your mind, that the universe uses in order to grant those unspoken high calorie wishes to overweight Americans?
Meg, yes but... : ) If you remember the first post where I explained why I thought those stories were connected and important...God only knows where that post is, I don't even know which thread I am responding to anymore. Anyway ,I explained that I dreamt some insignificant but not knowable fact about my friend. I turned out to be right (mostly) and my friend couldn't believe it. I asked my Dad how I could have known that and in a dream he said that spirits can impress thoughts on people (free will remains) . The Big Mac and pina colada happened after he gave me that explanation so for me those 2 things were just his way of proving what he said and again confirming to me it really was him talking to me in that dream.

So, the spirits want you to eat big macs and drink piña coladas? (Thanks Carlitos!) The spirits wanted you to lose your willpower? The spirits want you to be fat?

Sounds like a pretty sweet excuse for you to do what you know is the wrong thing but take no blame for it. How far does this little rule of yours go? If you think about getting a new car, and then, just walking down the street you see a new car just like the one you wanted with the keys in the ignition, would you consider that a gift from the spirits, too, and drive away with it?

If the woman came back because she was really attracted and wanted to stay, she would have come back and stayed and we'd have gotten intimate. It did not happen that night or ever and she left immediately.

Or you blew it with your silly "I've got soopermagic mind powers" act. Tsk tsk tsk.

You'd think that the spirits would have better things to do.

Indeed. And wouldn't you think, if the spirits of our loved ones wanted to help us, that they actually would help us? Like give us extra strong will power? Or make unimportant appointments cancel so we've got more time to work out? Or help us to get free vegetables, or make us park way far away so we have to walk more? Or turn off the cable so that we talk to each other or read more books?

Seems to me there are a million better ways the spirits could send a little message of "We love you and we've got your back!" Pushing us to consume high fat, high sugar foods seems like one of the worst possible things they could do.

Maybe Robin's spirits want her to get diabetes?

Apparently there is some sort of veil between us and the spirits. This veil only allows the passage of inconsequential messages.

Actually, I think the veil is around the eyes of the believer. And not really a veil so much as a hoodwink, placed there by the purveyors of woo, those unscrupulous charlatans, like Silva or Edward, who makes lots and lots of money trying to convince people that if only they take this course, buy this book, believe this *********, go to this show, subscribe to this newsletter, that they too can get whatever they want without having to work for it like the rest of us.

They wrap that hoodwink tight about their heads, to guard against the realization that they are just one human among billions, special, but not that special, and that some things are hard and painful, and some things take lots of work. We all live, we all die, and lots of **** is just unfair.

In the hoodwink of woo, one doesn't have to try to charm a girl, they just come to you! In the hoodwink of woo, people never really die.. they are always hanging around waiting to talk to you! It doesn't matter if they don't even seem to remember their names anymore or can only apparently talk about the most mundane bullcrap. They will tell you whatever you want them to say in dreamland. They will get you free hamburgers if only you believe! They will just give you whatever you want.

Meg and others, you seem to be missing the big picture. The significance is not supposed to be in the big Mac or piña colada itself. The significance is proving something that my Dad told me( spirits can impress thoughts ) on people is true. And that it was him in my dream. But since free will does remain, that is why our deceased loved ones cannot protect us from every idiot, mentally unstable or just plain evil person who wants to harm anyone (Ex. Newtown Ct. Etc). Also they are not solving the world's ills or giving us winning lottery numbers or anything big because that is why we are on this Planet ....to learn and grow spiritually through our own choices and experiences. I said in my blog comments. .. Earth is the school & we are here as students to learn and most importantly be kind to one another . Think about it...if we were able to just call up the teacher and get the exact answers to the test without studying or experiencing anything, would we truly be learning. Which isn't to say that they can't help... Through hope and prayer and love and faith etc. they try to support us , ie help us, on our path here on Earth.

Robin, I don't think anyone is missing anything. I've heard yours (and many other) convoluted explanations of how the spirit world works. A pretty story isn't true just because it's pretty.

Frankly, I don't find that story (versions of which I have heard innumerable times, too) all that pretty. I find it soporific and insulting, not to mention presumptuous and ultimately tautological.

We're also at a point where any criticism of that tautology can be viewed as the meanie skeptics being mean. Kinda ironic in that folks like Edward who are indeed making up memories for cash appear as the sympathetic, nurturing, healing characters in this play

I was being kind. I prefer Heidegger. ;)

You know, there's an online tutoring service (available free through many public libraries.) The tutors don't "give the answers," but they do talk students through how to approach whatever the lesson is. They don't help through "hope and prayer and love and faith etc." - they give practical advice. It would seem that people who really loved you could do as much, instead of all this waffling about "Uncle Jimmy wants to know if you still like fudge."

When you say teacher I presume that you mean a god.

OK, you imagine ghosts talk to you in dreams and you believe this because you were given a FREE Big Mac and won a FREE Piña Colada?
Is your deceased father telling you it's OK to be fat?

I've heard a lot of interesting excuses for over-weight, but never
"Ghosts made me eat this."

That sounds familiar:

In This Divine Classroom: Earth School and the Psychology of the Soul, Marcia Beachy develops the broader view that planet Earth is a classroom for the soul’s evolution. ...

What a spooky coincidence!

But back to Robin's FREE Piña Colada as proof of otherworldly communication.
How is being over-weight supposed to help us?
Wouldn't it have been much more helpful to your 'path here on Earth' to have been directed to a recipe for a skinny Piña Colada rather being given yet another excuse to take aboard those calories?

Piña Colada= 644 calories

Since the spirit world is really full of goodness and light, these are obviously the bad spirits craving all the worthless calories they can no longer get? It's a known fact (just invented here) that the spirit world is full of tofu and alfalfa sprouts. Everything, even the beverages, are made from one or the other. Obviously, Robin's got some of the bad guys who are trying to cross back so they can enjoy a little hedonistic binge and are unable to do so. (That's probably why they hang out at Sylvia Browne's place - she doesn't look like she skipped a lot of dessert carts.)

My coincidence from yesterday, though a bit different from what has been presented so far, simply to show that coincidences really do happen all the time.

What's interesting, to me, is that we actually create coincidences in our minds. All kinds of things are happening all of the time. A coincidence occurs when we consciously make a connection between things that would seem, to us, to be otherwise unrelated. Of course, it also has to be interesting.

I've mentioned my favorite coincident in a few of these types of discussions. One afternooon at work, a friend quoted an oft-quoted line from a movie. Later that afternoon, I received an unsolicited letter from the actor who had said that line in the flim.

The chances of something like that happening at random seem to be extremely remote. And, I suppose they are. By the same token, though, I just saw a falling leaf stick to the window near me just as a woman in a commercial on TV took a photo of a cupcake. I'm sure that the changes of those two things happening at the same time are just as remote. But, those things don't strike me as a "coincident" since they don't seem to be related. But, that may just be because my imagination isn't good enough to see the cosmic connection! :-)
