• Quick note - the problem with Youtube videos not embedding on the forum appears to have been fixed, thanks to ZiprHead. If you do still see problems let me know.
That. The only thing scarier to your grandma than a black guy is a black guy with a mental problem.

Now if they black guy with the mental problem smoked a joint at point since the last Census, then that's 3 for 3 he's guilty by default.

It's just more "Whhhaaat? I'm just asking questions, why are you being so.... uNCIVIL" poisoning the well nonsense.

It was an ploy by the defense to use race along with the stigma against the mentally ill to appeal to a white juror's sense of visceral terror of being charged by a crazy black man.

Too bad the jurors weren’t skeptics, it may have worked.

While we're on this side note, I'm going to assume that everyone here knows there are differences between schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, and schizotypal personality. There are even several different forms of schizophrenia and it's not entirely clear how (or even if) they're related, just like different types of cancer.

Because I would assume that being skeptics, people are doing at least cursory reading on the subject and not just parroting what they heard on YouTube last week.

But how would they know he had mental health problems, he was not acting in any way out of the ordinary. Which was the point it was just to give as much evidence to blacken his reputation regardless of what the murderers could have possibly known.

FTFY, and yes.

Win, for the most unapologetic and blatant goalpost move ever seen.

Specifying qualifications is a not "moving the goalposts". However, attempting to preclude a reply by calling it one is known as a "poisoning the well" fallacy.

A Psychiatric NP is not a specific qualification of a Nurse Practitioner; it is a more advanced and higher set of letters, like a Masters in Computer Science is above and beyond a Bachleors in Computer Science. Just because both use "NP", it doesn't mean one is a specialization of the other. It is above and beyond.

Just to expand on the value of Newsletters, a number of which I subscribe to.

Along with probably most of the forum, myself included.

These are often curated by experts in the relevant fields, and their contributors are highly qualified people sharing their knowledge with others in their field.

I consider publications such as the "NASA Newsletter", "Aerospace Manufacturing", "Aviation Week Newsletters", "Flightradar24 Aviation Newsletter." to be valuable sources of reliable and up-to-date information in a field that interests me. They have enabled to me to make what I have been told by some members, to be valuable contributions to topics involving aviation.

I see no reason whatsoever why such newsletters of the medical profession, contributed to and curated by medical processionals such as nurses and doctors would not also be reliable sources.

The distinction being made is not reliability; I agree they are. But I would consider them credible references, not medical sources.

For example, from your postings, I would consider you to be a credible reference on the Apollo missions and the moon landing. I would not consider you an engineering source for that information. In the same way, the Texan nurse is not a medical source regarding what the State of Georgia allows Nurse Practitioners to do.

More "dirty toenails" fodder purely to poison the jury. Fortunately it was utterly unsuccessful.

"Dirty toenails" was without question the weirdest thing I've ever heard.

RE: the mentally ill thing to support a self-defense claim: the same thing was tried with Joseph Rosenbaum in the Kyle Rittenhouse case, trying to use Rosenbaums mental health issues to paint him as a nutjob, and by extension, someone violent and crazy irrational fiend that poor little Kyle had to defend himself from.

Don't forget the very popular "Rosenbaum was a pedo so it's no big deal at all"

One of Ahmaud Arbery's killers had 16 phone calls with DA before arrest, court filings say

https://www.cnn.com/2022/05/06/us/ahmaud-arbery-shooting-da-calls/index.html

"The evidence shows that Johnson showed favor and affection for McMichael throughout the pendency of the case -- including when she was making decisions as the DA over his case," the government's brief said.
The government's brief also points to conversations Johnson had with other officials, suggesting that Johnson tried to influence the handling of McMichael's case rather than promptly recusing herself from involvement because of their past acquaintance.

Slowly but surely?

Travis McMichael fears being slain in a Georgia state prison.....

..... and wants to remain in the physical custody of the federal government because he is afraid he'll be killed once in the Georgia state prison system.

https://edition.cnn.com/2022/08/06/us/ahmaud-arbery-killer-state-prison/index.html

In a memo from his attorney Amy Lee Copeland, she states...

"His concern is that he will promptly be killed upon delivery to the state prison system for service of that sentence. He has received numerous threats of death that are credible in light of all circumstances, and the government has a pending investigation into the Georgia DOC's ability to keep inmates safe in a system where murder rates have tripled. McMichael had received hundreds of threats and "quit counting in January 2022, at around 800 threats."
Well now Travis, consequences are a bitch aren't they?

I'm sure Georgia has ADSEG in their prison system (also known as "Snitches and Bitches"). The DOC can put him there instead of general pop.

Celebrating the possibility of summary justice being meted out by the worst of society..... priceless.

His punishment is incarceration, not to daily run the gamut of murderous intent harboured by his fellow criminal animals, while you cheer on from your armchair on the other side of the world.

Yeah it's a terrible indictment of the prison system not something to be happy or unconcerned about.

Indeed it is, though it is in agreement with the opinion of some conservatives here or would be if the victim were in a different place and a different color. You know, "play stupid games, win stupid prizes," etc.

But the idea of a prison as a snake pit run internally by the snakes is not, I think, an idea of merit, nor is the idea that some kind of justice is meted out by those who are, at least in theory, being punished for their misunderstanding of how a just society works.

I'd rather see McMichael treated decently by those who have every emotional reason not to, and to serve every second of his sentence having to reflect on how wrong and stupid he had been.

Alas, not too likely, and if he comes to harm I'll think "too bad," but must confess I will not lose much sleep over it either.

Well...yeah, we shouldn't be cheering for barbaric karmic comeuppance if we are not barbarians ourselves.

Still, seeing someone who chose social evil being faced with being on the receiving end of similar social evil has a nice aftertaste of "live by the sword".

This.

McMichael may be the type to live by the sword so to speak but I'm not fond of lynch mobs being disposed of by lynch mobs. And the prison mob isn't exactly carefully selective of who lives by the sword and who doesn't.

Oh yeah, you'd be pretty strange not to feel a sort of emotional satisfaction. I just do think that on the more thoughtful and rational level, it's not to be preferred.
