I never do it because the foreign names sound unusual. I do it to offend the very specific groups or individuals I do it to and/or the supporters of same.

I assume, btw, that Mousavi did so because he had people reporting to him of the general voting by people wearing his colors or otherwise identifiable as supporting him.

Her name is Neda, and her death is becoming a rallying cry for the revolution.

ETA: As for those of you who want to use this situation in Iran to hurl US-Euro or left-right barbs at each other, get off the frakkin' thread. There are more important things going on here that don't have any bearing on your 12-year old insults designed to satisfy inflated egos.

This is not the conspiracy theories section.

I personally don't care if you actually believe that 9/11 was an inside job and the 2000/2004 elections were stolen and that is the proper context to view those events in, the fact remains that the other 99% of us regard those beliefs as loony and there is a place set aside on this forum for unproven loony ideas about current events and world history.
