How many rapists could he have stopped with this?

Funny, I was under the impression that inanimate objects didn't leap off the floor to attack 3-year-olds. Without further information about how this stuff was stored, we can't really have an informed opinion about this situation, now can we?

Were there bombs or just could be bombs??propane tanks alone could =bombs.1 Lbs cans of Gun Power for re-loading could=bombs,if you want to condemn someone bad enough..as the Government would in this case to justify their intervention you could come up with all sort of things that could=a bomb!!especially with an extremly syphathtic media!

Isn't it amazing how much we can make out of four paragraphs on CNN?

There is not enough information available for all these judgements being made. I think corplinx had the most perceptive insight by noting the raid was done by the NYPD Drug Enforcement Task Force. Guess they were looking for something else and found the guns instead...

Now it so happens I have kept checking for more news items to come out and yesterday there were none, but there is one now here. And it's more than four paragraphs.

About the bombs:

Among the cache were seven delicate homemade explosive devices -- described as hollow tubes filled with gunpowder and laden with sharp nails wrapped in aluminum foil, said Staten Island District Attorney Daniel Donovan.

"They were homemade, improvised explosive devices that have already been deemed by our experts as operable," said Assistant Police Chief Anthony J. Izzo, commander of the NYPD Narcotics Division. "I'm told that anyone within a five-to-10 foot radius of this device detonating would be, at the very least, severely injured."

The weapons:

In addition to the explosives, police said they found 13 weapons, including three semi-automatic assault rifles with bayonet mounts and laser sights, one 12-gauge shotgun, a 30.06 rifle, a .357 rifle, a .45 pistol and tens of thousands of rounds of ammunition.

About their frame of mind:

The couple had enough rations and water in the 12-by-12 foot bunker to last for months, investigators said. The bunker was also equipped with a stereo, a large screen television and several electronic military games.

Carry on!

Here's more:

His arsenal allegedly included seven deadly grenade-style bombs embedded with nails and screws. Four of the bombs were attached to a belt, so they'd be easy to carry and throw.

Boschi also had Nazi books and memorabilia, cops said.

"I don't think he was playing with a full deck," said Aldo DiLorenzo, known as the honorary mayor of the Arrochar section. "He wasn't racist - he was totally nuts. He didn't hate Jews. He hated everybody."

And the piece de resistance:

Boschi's lawyer, John Murphy Jr., said in court that the bombs were meant for fishing.

I give that one the maximum of five smilies. :D :D :D :D :D

5' to 10' radius??I've got farts more potent than that...sounds like a toy 'firecracker' or fishing thing to me.Not gonna pull off a 9/11 with that!!

I love this stuff, "how dare you Zenith say that a home with homemade bombs, 10,000 rounds of ammunition and 13 guns may be a hazardous environment for a three year old to play in, who the "F" are you to say that".... Gotta love NRA-holes... ;)

That's the point I was making earlier. Many of us have things in our kitchens and garages that, put together, could be considered bombs.

Sounds to me like they were expecting to have to defend themselves from someone or something (what or whom I don't know). Doesn't seem like they were planning on launching any attacks or anything.

Please provide evidence that these items were within enough of a proximity to the children to pose a hazard. If you can't do that, then shut the fark up!

Ironically Shanek is more pissed off that I suggested that the home filled with homemade bombs, 10,000 rounds of ammunition and 13 guns may be hazardous for a three year old, than he is about a three-year-old living amongst homemade bombs, 10,000 rounds of ammunition and 13 guns..... Hahahaha, funny what people defend....

A post by Zenith-Nadir I agree with. :jaw:

I must go and make a nice cup of tea and have a quiet sit down.

Here's a cogent test:

You're driving down the road. You are not wanted by the police and you have broken no laws. You are obeying all traffic regulations and your tag, insurance, and inspections are all up-to-date. You also know that all of the equipment on your car, including brake lights etc., are fully functional. A cop pulls up behind you.

Do you feel:

a) Nervous
b) Safe and secure

If you answered a), then you are experiencing the biggest indication that you are living in a police state.

It would be interesting to break down people's responses to this question along the lines of age, gender, and ethnicity.

Heck, it mightn't have violated any firearms laws, but I'd be surprised if it didn't violate some other kind of code. Store enough potentially flammable or explosive material here and even if the material itself is legal you'll probably run foul of some regulation relating to fire hazard.

Ok, this will involve a little derail but I think this topic is done.

Why do you think I am so passionate about the palestinian-Israeli issue Nikk? Because I am a zionist? Hardly. Because I am religious? Not in the slightest. It is because Hamas, Al Aksa, Islamic Jihad, Arafat and the Palestinian Authority abuse children by brainwashing them to become child soldiers. In Israel you cannot join the army officially until you are 18, in the West Bank and Gaza the story is much different.

I wonder what the Staten Island three-year-old would have become living with such caring parents who felt the need to surround him with homemade bombs, 10,000 rounds of ammunition and 13 guns... ;)

No, I'm p!ssed off because you refuse to support your assertion.

Fire hazard would be a valid point, but from the descriptions in the other articles Luke T found it sounds like they were relatively safe from fire. That sounds pretty well insulated to me. The only real danger from a fire in that case might be electrical; but again, we have no idea how or where these things were stored.

I fully agree that using children as soldiers is immoral, probably even moreso than slavery.

One of my shipmates suffered a tragedy in his family while we were out to sea once. His young son (six, I think) found their loaded shotgun and started playing with it. He shot his eight year old sister and killed her. Blew half her body away.

Devastating. The whole ship wept.

Yes, weapons, and even other dangerous items such as knives and household cleaners (why people put guns in a separate category I have no idea), should absolutely be kept where children cannot get to them.
