I can’t believe he hasn’t been advised to come clean.

The cops have this on video, they never told him or us.

They have phone records corroborating the Brothers’ story.

They have credit card for the booking of the Nigeria trip.

They have him lying to investigators

There is no way out for him.

Additionally the majority of people in North America are encouraged to not question claims by certain segments of the population.

Combine those two factors and pulling something like this off is a great idea for an acting or political career.

There needs to be a long discussion on how these factors need to change. But I think that is 5 -10 years off at least.

We are supposed to believe that these types of societal changes are permanent, therefor we should just get with the program. I also wonder, though, if eventually there will be a backlash.

Well, February is ratings month in the US...

But with all the Emmys the show won I can't see the need to try to bump viewership with a hoax.

I'm gonna have to jump in and give the Victory Lap in the pace car with the 2019 Race Queen to Puppycow (sorry, thepresige).

P'cow was in at post four with an unequivocal "this one will turn out to be a hoax". Even I thought that it was a hoax, but was a bit more tentative. The enthusiasm with which he made his declaration deserves the thread victory lap. Congratulations, puppycow!

Nothing about this story has been plausible.

From the initial claim, to the currently-reported hoax scenario, none of it is very believable.

There was a brief moment, right at the very beginning, where the proposition that a black man was the victim of a hate crime was plausible enough in principle. But even that started looking unlikely the moment you began looking at the specific details of this particular claim.

FMW should have been scolding Travis from Page 1 onward.

Damn. I thought this was a comically ridiculous scenario when I posed this as a joke.

We have had a few posters who opined quite judgmentally how racist certain posters were for doubting this tale. They have been remarkably quiet lately. Busy with doing laundry I suppose. I expect them along presently.

Actually, we can save them the trouble: anyone doubting Smollett all along was racist anyway. Stopped clocks and whatnot. You're welcome, guys.

You will have a lawsuit with this award. The member who originally posted the story certainly made it clear that it was not believable. The Big Dog has claim on the prize and victory lap.

He is black?
He is gay?
He is famous?
His political ideology?
His religiosity?
 
$3500 is a hell of a lot of money to pay for a quick and easy task that almost anyone could do. The payoff was this high because...

You are doing a horrible thing.
You are taking a serious risk.
You are normally paid that hourly rate for doing things.
Some other reason.

Wasn't the original claim that the two guys were white? I mean, of course that's assumed, with MAGA hats and racist epithets and all.
 
Que no one admitting ideology blinded them to this one.

Is it not racist to have a discussion as to how guilt based morality leads to some horrible ******
