After interrogating and releasing two men seen in surveillance video near the scene of the alleged attack on “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett, Chicago police are saying that the new information they have “could change the story entirely.” https://abcn.ws/2SIU16T

IOW, the new information that the police have is the only two suspects in the case are no longer suspects and that changes the story entirely. :thumbsup:

In other news, abc, cbs, fox and nbc reporters just as clueless as everyone on ISF!

CWB and FOX Chicago are reporting that the cops were able to track the purchase of the rope to an ACE Hardware up in Wrigleyville

Anyone who thinks this hoax stunt was not a staged event designed to incite hatred is fooling themselves.

Justice for Jussie! 6-8 years anyway...

Change the story, indeed. The Condo of Dr Smollett and his mad breeding experiments with agandas with soon come to light.

If the story will change entirely, and the story thus far was that Smollett was the victim, I wonder what CPD is onto?
 
Every time I watch a movie, there's a point where I'm thinking, "Wait, that makes no sense. If the girl was working for the bad guys the whole time, why didn't she just run off with the mcguffin during the fight in the abandoned cement factory?"

Real life doesn't have plot holes, but this story sure seems to.

I predict that there is at least one presently well-established reliably-sourced fact about this case that will turn out to be completely false; that there is at least one presently outrageous unsourced rumor that will turn out to be true; and there is at least one truthful aspect of the case that, even when the full history is known, will not make any sense at all.

It's a strangely written story. It says the police did not name the men, which I suppose is technically true...

But the names of the men have been plastered all over the media for a couple days.

The bit about the three possibly speaking and about seeing Smollett, could be interesting. Did they see Smollett with the noose, or putting it on?

While police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said on Saturday that he could not speak on what the new information was, he said that the break from detectives has “shifted the trajectory” of the investigation. Though he did not say whether Smollett spoke to the men that night — one of them had previously appeared on “Empire” — he said it will also be central to the investigation whether they spoke to or saw Smollett.

I'm only seeing Rafer Weigel (fox) saying that the rope was from Ace. CWB appears to have filled in all the rest.
 
I think it's entirely possible that the brothers were fed a BS story by Jussie as to why he called them out there at that hour and unbeknownst to them, he was setting them up to provide the "two men walking around area on security camera" he needed for plausibility.

Anything from that all the way up to them roughing him up at his request, knowing exactly what the plan was, making the ransom letter after being paid by him to do so, etc.

All possible.

What I think has a zero percent possibility is that they actually beat him up with any hostility, or that anyone else did so.

Again, I would be floored to learn he hasn't had sexual relations with one or both brothers.

I'd also be floored if it turned out they haven't received money from him both for general stuff over their time knowing one another, and specifically for this hoax.

No! Stay with it! You knew if they weren't charged yesterday that the weekend would be a tough slog! Don't give up now!
 
Rafer is saying that the police know that the brothers purchased the rope that was used.

Yet the brothers are released and are not suspects?

That would mean that the brothers were working with Smollett, or someone connected to Smollett, and that is the direction CPD is going.

If it's accurate...

Yes, you are correct, he is from local Fox Chicago, I have updated my post.

And yes, through their other reporting they have filled in much of the rest.

Sending a hoax death threat through the mail to the studio is not going to be a minor charge, because it was contaminated with white powder.

Further, exposing this as a fake threat is important to contradict all the terrible stories that were spread when the story first came out.

Remember they called it a lynching, a hate crime and domestic terrorism.

But they aren't likely to prosecute anyone, imo.

Least of all Smollett.

CPD is too afraid of the backlash, imo.
