I go grocery shopping and this thing breaks wide open! Damn my priorities! A couple of things, is Minaco actually his lawyer now? They just repeated that on my local Fox affiliate. Was Jussie being written out of Empire? Where's Parcher? Does he know? The wingiest of wingmen! He had all of our backs!

The network denied that Jussie was being written out of Empire, so there is still the question of motive to be resolved. Perhaps it was an attempt to gain publicity for the show?

Man, I hope Inspector Chicagostyle comes out soon and explains all the twists and details.
I think more than a few of us saw this was where it'd end up early on, but I'd really, really like to know just how we got here too.

Gawd, I hope so. This guy deserves full measure of the law and blacklisting.

Is there any reliable word about the investigation in to the letter now? Someone expressed doubt that CPD would prosecute which I think is bull, but the FBI sure won't. This is just so wrong on so many levels.

I think it is pretty simple.

We live in a time where your worth is not measured by your skill, or contributions but by your personal tribulations. And these tribulations are graded by criteria, 2 of the highest value being "being attacked for your race" and "being attacked for your sexually".

Additionally the majority of people in North America are encouraged to not question claims by certain segments of the population.

Combine those two factors and pulling something like this off is a great idea for an acting or political career.

There needs to be a long discussion on how these factors need to change. But I think that is 5 -10 years off at least.
 
Everyone assumed this was an act committed by a bigot, but in reality it was the polar (vortex) opposite: a Smollett.
 
Jussie just admitted that one of the Nigerians was his personal trainer. He also said he was devastated that people are lying about him

WLS Chicago just reported that the Nigerians got paid and had a receipt for the rope around his neck.

This is the most entertaining hate hoax ever.
 
CBS in Kalamazoo just said the brothers are claiming smollett paid them to carry out the attack

I bet you it will come out that Jussie suggested and/or paid for the Nigeria trip which began immediately after the event, and that he sold it as extra brilliant because "during the time the cops are looking for a couple of white guys, you'll be on another continent!"
 
Statement released by Jussie's legal team:

As a victim of a hate crime who has cooperated with the police investigation, Jussie Smollett is angered and devastated by recent reports that the perpetrators are individuals he is familiar with. He has now been further victimized by claims attributed to these alleged perpetrators that Jussie played a role in his own attack. Nothing is further from the truth and anyone claiming otherwise is lying.

One of these purported suspects was Jussie’s personal trainer who he hired to ready him physically for a music video. It is impossible to believe that this person could have played a role in the crime against Jussie or would falsely claim Jussie’s complicity.

Jussie and his attorneys anticipate being further updated by the Chicago Police Department on the status of the investigation and will continue to cooperate. At the present time, Jussie and his attorneys have no inclination to respond to “unnamed” sources inside of the investigation, but will continue discussions through official channels.

This whole thing would make a good Netflix miniseries. So many twists and turns, and then it turns out each of the guests were guilty except for Mr Green, who can then go home and sleep with his wife.
