Hitchens being an ass

Let me make this indisputable fact clear: Her jokes were simplistic sneers.

False Dichotomy joke:

There are two cars. One with a stranger (kiddy diddler) and the other with Dick Cheney.

Get in with the stranger.

*Audience laughs superfluously, amidst some faint boos*

I find drug abuse in public unbecoming and embarrassing.

Plus: Hitchens is screwing up his health with his drinking problem.
I watched his waterboarding adventure and was mildly surprised that he didn't die on the spot.

Was he drunk? Because Hitchens alcohol consumption is f(x)=y.

That is to say that after x units of time, he as consumed y units of alcohol. If you want to catch him in a good mood, just catch him at a lower value of x.

I've been in a constant battle with myself for several years, trying to work out how I actually feel about Hitchens. One day I hate him, the other I love him.

I'm also curious about another emotion I feel when I listen to him, and it's a feeling of boredom. Strange, as his writing is very entertaining, and his debating style is also very entertaining. However, for some reason I cannot help but turn him off and feel like the life has been sucked out of me. He is perhaps the most original, but the least inspirational person I have ever seen.

Just to echo something: dyke is a perojative word in the US. (And nonmembers of a word cannot use it the same way members can.)

Secondly, because someone is right in situation x does not mean they are right in y - there's no point in being offensive if there's n point to it, and there was no point in it here. Just because Hitchens is celebrated for his stance against foo does not mean his action bar was right.

How early in the morning do you have to catch him before he crosses the friendly/surly barrier?

But quite often it does.

"He who dares not offend cannot be honest." -- Thomas Paine

"He who cannot make a point without being an ******* does not have a point worth making." -- me

A skeptic is not someone who goes out of his way to offend people, just for the publicity or the thrills or the reputation for offending people, like Hitchens does.

A skeptic isn´t someone who says things that (some) skeptics agree to, like Hitchens does.

A skeptic is someone who uses critical thinking to arrive at his conclusions, whatever these may be, and I don´t see Hitchens doing that.

This is why I have Ducky's immortal quote "A jerk who is right is still a jerk" in my sig.

Hitchens is going to drink himself to death one of these days. If you are getting drunk in public like that and not even caring -- I'm not buying his rationalizations about how "brave" it is to be a drunk -- you need serious help.

You can add a new one, by me: "A jerk who is right is not automatically right every time he is a jerk."

Hitchens is a guy who can be brilliant at times, but he can also be an absolute Alpha Hotel, and seems to enjoy being an Alpha Hotel. End of discussion.
One thing that does annoy me is how on the Internet some fans get upset when anybody points out that the object of their fandom has flaws.

What? Hitch made this remark at the White House Correspondents Diner, not the Philodemic Society of Georgetown University. But are you saying that Hitch needed to do more critical thinking before he determined that Sykes was a lesbian?

What does her lesbianism have to do with anything? If Sykes had called Elton John a 'white faggot' for no reason I'm sure there would be many voices raised on this forum, with good reason.

You gotta remember, Cicero is a fan of Ann Coulter, who, as far as I know, likes the word "faggot" as well. And I recall a certain situation in which she made it into a public "joke" that also bombed.

Perhaps you should familiarize yourself with Elton's John's lyrics to "American Triangle." He isn't shy about using that slang himself. But that is just creative license, I guess.
