Yeah, it's also quite easy to find stories about Comey on British news sites like the BBC or The Guardian. The notion that only the US knows who he is is wrong.
 
Amusing how people have a new boogieman in Comey now. Had Comey taken the same stance on Trump that he did on Clinton (recommending no charges) I can only imagine the flack he would have gotten from people here. Now that he is taking actions which might hurt Clinton he is the goat in the eyes of people who previously approved.

I still think Trump doesn't stand a chance.

Nobody is criticizing his stance on Clinton. We're criticizing his actions, where he sent a letter to Congress which he knew would get out to the media, telling them about some emails that might or might not be pertinent to the Clinton investigation, with no further information, and that he did all this eleven days before the election and against the advice of the Justice department.

Hold on, are you claiming that Comey recommended charges against Trump for any of the many things Trump has been investigated for? Because I remember Comey keeping mum about the investigations into Trump while publicly criticizing Clinton even when his investigation into Clinton failed to find anything to charge.

I tend toward optimism. I think the American people are smart enough overall to reject Trump, and in a week or so the rest of us can enjoy the sweet taste of his tears.

Oh Noes! Sweden is mad at the US because the FBI wrote a letter to Congress.

Normally, when one uses a phrase like "had x done y," the person using that phrase means that x did not do y. Comey did not recommend charges against Trump, so Comey did, in fact, take the same stance on Trump. The key difference is that Comey did so in a way that didn't even inform people that Trump was being investigated, while ensuring that Clinton looked bad even though his investigation into her failed to produce charges.
 
The way some papers are reporting this is a disgrace.

The Telegraph has just published a story about Trump now winning in the polls 'as a result of a new email scandal for Hillary Clinton'

It won't matter if it turns out to be nothing after the election (I'm not saying it will or won't), Comey's actions have absolutely blown this wide open and no-one is stressing that there may be absolutely nothing to these emails.

Oh and Radio 4 this morning, advertising the Moral Maze program actually referred to her as 'Crooked Hilary' with no surrounding context.

Most likely result? Comey hasn't quite saved Trump but he's possibly stopped the Republicans losing more than the Presidency. At least I hope the former is true...

The timing was absolutely devastating - early enough to affect the majority of votes, too late to recover from. I may have had a smidgen of understanding of his actions if it had literally just come to light (still wouldn't agree) but haven't his FBI colleagues been aware for sometime?
 
Actually, strike that. I have no understanding of his actions (other than the worst) as he's basically said he did it to cover his arse (told them it was completed and now it's not) but since the DoJ advised him not to do it, his arse was covered - 'Sorry guys, DoJ told me to leave it until after the election'.

Even if it leaked, as he feared, he was covered 'We don't talk about investigations and there is no indication, at the moment, of any wrongdoing.'

This all smells really bad and I'm surprised Obama is backing him - although the statement I thought I saw seemed a lot more neutral than has been reported...
 
Hillary has gained back 0.5% over the last couple of hours at 538, up from 70.2% to 70.7%, first time in days that she has had an uptick, cross your fingers (and everything else...).

ETA: And down we go again, Nate Silver offer's a little hope and then snatches it away, giggling all the while...

This gif tracks the different analytics forecasts over the last few months.

538 seems to be a bit of an outlier.
