It got very little, if any notice in US media. I usually key in to these ocurrences and your mention is the first I've heard of it.
In any case, I would guess it's going to be carried in the Canadian media for a while.
The funerals for some of the victims are tomorrow (Monday).

There are very few details that would explain the 'why'. The alleged perpetrator, Matthew deGrood, seemed to be a quiet but well liked and successful university student. He was invited to the party where the attacks took place.
Police are saying that drugs and alcohol were not a factor and there doesn't seemed to have been any sort of altercation before the attack, which suggests premeditation. The guy just went into the kitchen, grabbed a knife, and began stabbing. (Police report states that he brought an "instrument" with him to the party but that he used a knife found in the home).
Could this be an argument for knife security laws?
It's also been reported that deGrood sent text messages to his mother before the attack and those messages prompted the mother to contact the police. That and a Facebook post referencing some 'Megadeath' lyrics are the only clues released so far as to what might have been on the killers mind...
