Cont: Greta Thunberg - brave campaigner or deeply disturbed - part 3

Looks like Israel is going to start boarding flotilla vessels soon.
Let's see how they treat US veterans, and what the US response will be.

Just enough to allow a famine, and lots of people to starve to death.
Too bad the flotilla would have done nothing to alleviate this. Their stated goal is to break the blockade, which is never going to happen. Nowhere on their website do they actually describe the amount and kind of essential aid they're carrying.

I also notice that their mission statement does not mention aid at all.

The tl;dr is these six goals:

  1. Challenge the blockade
  2. Expose the nature of the occupation
  3. Raise awareness
  4. Challenge the blockade in the courts
  5. Respond to calls from Gaza
  6. Offer hope and inspiration
In the FAQ it has this statement:

Will the Freedom Flotilla allow Israeli officials to inspect the ship contents, including the humanitarian aid?

No. The FFC acts in full compliance with maritime law. Third parties inspect our vessels to ensure that no dangerous goods are brought on board. Israel has a long history of weaponizing “inspection” as a pretext to block or delay critical aid, often banning essential items under false “dual use” claims, including water filters, anaesthetics, and other medical equipment.

The international community has allowed Israel to impede and completely halt humanitarian aid for too long, allowing for their calculated and forced starvation of the people in Gaza. We categorically reject inspections by the very military force responsible for the siege, genocide, famine, and brutal war crimes. In accordance with the International Court of Justice’s ruling in 2024 we reject Israel’s control over the delivery of aid and its use of starvation as a weapon of war.

All our direct actions are a legitimate challenge to Israel’s genocidal regime, demanding freedom of movement and self-determination for Palestinians, and an end to Israel’s unlawful domination over Gaza.

And this:

Do Flotilla vessels take aid to Gaza?

Yes. We carry humanitarian aid aboard all of our vessels. But while getting humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza is urgent, it is not sufficient to make the blockade conditions slightly more tolerable. An alarming number of Palestinians in Gaza are also dependent on aid because of political decisions by governments that are complicit in or profiting from Israel’s genocidal campaign.

Our goal is to end the illegal Israeli blockade that creates the need for aid in the first place. In addition to modest amounts of aid, our most important cargo is always human solidarity. Our vessels carry international witnesses, journalists, and human rights defenders. We hope that by reaching the shores of Gaza, this voyage will open a people’s corridor for more aid and support to reach Palestine by sea and by land, and more importantly, for the Palestinian people to safely use their own territorial waters for fishing, other maritime resources, travel, exports and imports.

Thank you for suggesting I check out the website. It's very informative.

How much stupider do they think they can sound?

You dont know that.
Of course I do. The amount of aid they're carrying is insignificant. There is no way they're getting through the blockade. There is no way they're ending the blockade. It's all empty gestures. It's all cargo cult activism: Going through the motions of protest, and pretending it's the same as effecting real change.

It informs us that their attempts to deliver aid are strictly pro forma, and that their real goals are laughably unrealistic.

They did meet the "raising awareness " goal.
Which is perpetually useless until it actually makes a change.

Problem is that it's always the somebody has to do something but it's not going to be the one raising awareness. Be it climate change or unfortunate results of an ongoing war it's always the same.
