Cont: Greta Thunberg - brave campaigner or deeply disturbed - part 3

Some people do go by their middle name, or one of their middle names. She doesn't. She goes by Greta.
How the cynical attention whore, Greta Tintin Eleonora Ernman Thunberg, perceives herself has little to do with how other people perceive her. She has no say over what aspects of her personality and work strike other people as most noteworthy. She's no more entitled to respectful epithets than is Dump Drumpf Trump. She wants to play in the public figure big leagues, she has to deal with the big league rules.

We can agree to call someone by their name, though, can't we?

I mean, except for Lord Dampnut. We all make an exception for him.

Donald Trump has the same entitlement.
In theory. But he gave up that entitlement when he acted like a huge douchebag.

See the difference (one difference) between you and me is that you think respect needs to be earned. I think every human being is entitled to the same level of respect unless and until they demonstrate themselves to be undeserving of it.

Using someone's name falls into that baseline level of respect. Also their pronouns but let's not get into that.

It's ineffectual at doing good. It's very effectual at manufacturing outrage, generating fear and hate, encouraging self-righteousness, and in the extreme vandalizing the commons - or worse. It also wastes resources and promotes ignorance. It's anti-social. It's not a part modern culture that should be ignored. It's a part of modern culture that should be denounced. I'm doing my part. Why aren't you?
Probably because I don't agree with any of that. And I think theprestige doth protest too much, but I may well be wrong about that.

In theory. But he gave up that entitlement when he acted like a huge douchebag.
I'd say he gave it up when he became a public figure. That's how these things usually work. But okay, sure: the cynical attention whore, Greta Tintin Eleonora Ernman Thunberg, gave up that entitlement when she chose a career of being a cargo cult poster child.

Further, acting like a huge douchebag is a very human thing to do. His behavior doesn't change the fact that he still exists as a human being.

Fair enough. But now you better understand my objection to cargo-cult activism, and why I don't just ignore it.

What are you trying to say here? Speak plainly.

Hard to say, without knowing what you mean.
It's just that it seems to me as if you are overreacting, based on your objections to her, but it is always hard to gauge emotions online - the vituperation seems ott to me, but as I said, it may just be me. I suspect that you and I have very different opinions about many things in life, but you seem intelligent, and fairly reasonable (for someone who doesn't agree with me😄), so it made me wonder if you were perhaps indulging in a little light rage baiting, what with G-Thunder for instance (especially when you corrected someone in another thread for calling Trump's favourite fictional character Hannibal Lector). Nothing deeper than that.
