Back when the economy first tanked in 2008, I saw people online claim that the way to fix it was to temporarily (Ha!) suspend all environmental regulations in the country. This would allow American companies to be profitable and competitive again, and the economy would quickly recover.
At the time, I was working in pesticide regulation at the state level, and I imagined what would happen if just EPA pesticide regulations were suspended.
Earth-Safe Weed Killer
Non-toxic
Safe as water
No ingredients listed on the label. No precautionary language. No first aid instructions. Minimal use directions. The artwork on the label shows a smiling child pouring the product on a weed.
The contents of the bottle: Agent Orange.
But, but, the states could regulate that. Unfortunately, most state pesticide regulations deal with the products themselves by just saying "products must comply with EPA regulations and be registered with the EPA."
