Glenn Beck Rape Coverup

wow page 2 got distinctly crotchety over here.

Anyone posting on this page know if the AARP has a comment on the Beck rape case?

Why would the American Association of Retired People's care about this?

IMO, the only people who aren't going to 'get' this are going to be over 50 with no experience of the internet. In which case I don't care. If it makes young intelligent people think, then it is worth it.

And everyone who has been saying we should stop doing this, I actually 'laughed out loud'. Stop the internet from doing something entertaining? Generational thing indeed.

Wow,

It's only a matter of time before this page inspires some News Anchor to bring this up, even if it's lost on them.

It's like Family Guy when they talked about how Laura Bush killed a guy.

Yep, Laura Bush killed a guy.

Zaphod and others have pointed out that many of Beck's followers will stand by him anyway. He's a good man because they believe in him, and since they certainly wouldn't believe in a bad man he must be good. It's tribal, not rational.

How do we break through that emotional tie in favor of evidence and reason? How do we get people to demand from their guy what they automatically demand from the creators of this meme?

Can you make feelers think?

Starting a rumor like this is one of the worst things you can do to another person. It's like a high school girl getting pissed at a male instructor for flunking her and crying rape. Even when if the instructor is proven innocent, he has to quit the job and he will have a stigma attached to his good name forever more.

People that start **** like this should punished to the full extent of the law. It is libel, defamation of character in it's worst form. If I was Glenn I would start making anonymous calls to the Child Protective Agency making claims of child abuse about any of those jerkwads that have kids.

I keep hearing people say, "Well, why doesn't he release documents...or whatever to prove his innocence. That's like trying to disprove a negative and it's not up to him to prove anything. It is up to the court to do so.

I think whoever started this had better come up with some concrete evidence or they are going to get sued in ways they don't even exist.

Like him or not, imagine yourself being accused of being a pedophile and having to try to prove you're not.

I'll take missed the whole bloody point for 500 Alex.

Er, Beck debunked the FEMA camps. He brought a Popular Mechanics guy on the show due to their expertise in attacking Truthers. In the clip cited, he even mentions the camps were built under Bush.

Plus, unlike what some have said on this thread, he is NOT a birther.

Do I particularly like Beck? Not exactly. As someone else put it, he seems rather credulous in regards to his own pet hyperbole about the Obama Administration. But he does us a service in some says, too; he brought down Van Jones.

Which demonstrates, aptly, exactly how many people will react to this thing.. which further demonstrates it's failure as any useful technique.

I'll be the first to admit the birthers and most insane Beck loyalists are morons. And so they will be even less likely to get it.

(Beck not being a birther would be news to me. However, I want to point out I was refering to the people who listen to him in the above sentence, not he himself).

Absolutely. One of the major problems with the reactionary right is the profound lack of a functioning sense of humor. IMO, why The Daily Show rules the political comedy spectrum.

This isn't to say I think that the Beck satire is funny - it doesn't really go over well with me.

Beck not being a birther would be news to me.

As well as to a good number on the left, sadly enough.

Which would be a laughable statement on such a notably skeptical community as this forum, in every possible topic of discussion.. except of course politics. Then critical thinking and logic suddenly go straight out the window.

Don't get me wrong, I realize it's meant as satire. But it's a bad point. It's a bad move. That should be flipping obvious by now. But some stubbornly refuse to agree.

This thread is a mockery of the the James Randi Educational Foundation. I guess it is moving from skepticism to spreading rumours and punishing haters of Obama.

It's hilarious. But then again my generation is filled with pretty disgusting humour so I understand if the elders posting in this thread don't get it.

lol @ "making a mockery of JREF" - in my opinion this little exercise is designed to stimulate critical thinking, because what it's really making fun of is the facile "connect the dots" thinking of conspiracy mongers.

Except the MSM didn't pick up on it, even though it was true. I learned about it from the National Enquirer. :boggled:

Praktik/Third Eye Open,

I don't find anything offensive about the joke. In fact, I find it funny and I find the righteous indignation of the people objecting to be even funnier.

I do take offense at your ageist slants, though. I just turned sixty. And there are a couple of truly sick (humor-wise) old geezers on these boards, so please stop with that silly-arsed "oh, us cool young guys get it" nonsense. I was cool before you was born, kids!
