Gillard labels Abbott a misogynist

So you actually need to get an extra cot or a double-sized pram.

I think if the Government was a bit more experienced in this area, they wouldn't come out with glib lines like that."

"I was alluding to my own experience of a double pram for Louise and Francis.

"If she wants to take offence, then of course I am sorry about that and if she would like me to say I am sorry, I'm sorry."

Oh I should add. "Wants to" take offence? It's her fault not mine because she "wants to"? Not my fault at all for causing offence?

Interesting (and wrong) psychology you use. People do choose to take offence, the same way people choose to get angry (in terms of behaviour).

"You made me angry" doesn't cut it except if you are in fact 10 years old - and even then I wouldn't let my kids get away with it. "You made me take offence and I will spit the dummy if I want to" doesn't cut it either.

One chooses one's actions and one's responses, to suggest otherwise is to advocate an abdication of personal responsibility.

I would also add, that just because someone takes offence does not mean one has to apologise either. If we had to apologise every time someone's feelings got hurt here (for example) we would end up thousands of them.

Not their emotions but their behaviours. It is what they do with their emotions that can prove problematic.

Why are you trying to upset me? Why did you mention my mum. Didn't you know she was abusive and a mute? You should be more careful not to make people upset. You make me angry and it's this sort of talk that is ruining Australia. :rolleyes:

Yes there are social responsibilities. I don't see too many here adhering to them though. I do see people trying very hard to take offense at any opportunity over things that - if said in private - would usually pass without comment.

A good example would be the reporting of on topic posts that were made in good humour and not actually directed at anyone.

Meanwhile, back on-topic, we can't just blame poor old One Trick Tony for being a misogynist, he really is a product of the party he represents

However, it may be that Abbott is just playing the cards he has been dealt given the number of women in Liberal and National parliamentary ranks. Women make up 21% of Coalition parliamentarians — a higher proportion than those Abbott has chosen to promote, but not much. On the other hand, 42% of Labor federal reps are women, and 60% of Greens
