Germany had the atomic bomb first

So, we are to take an alleged eye-witness account, 75 years after the alleged fact, of bright flash and loud noise during a time of war, and conclude from all that that the Nazis detonated an atomic bomb, even though there is no evidence of radioactive fallout, and that the alleged crater cited as 'evidence' could be more readily explained by gravel mining operations that occurred during the same time and in the same region.

More likely the old woman remembered an explosion from the use of dynamite, which actually was used in the area to loosen up the bedrock so that the gravel would be more easily extracted - gravel which would then have been trucked off to be used in construction of bunkers, gun emplacements, runways and tank traps.

It is also likely that she remembered accounts of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs and conflated all the events to form a false memory of an atomic explosion.

Thus, it is much more likely that the losers of WWII never had a working atomic bomb, and that all accounts to the contrary are merely anecdotal, and with only a peripheral basis in fact.

Occam's Razor strikes again!

I hope you and everyone else here gets to watch the program when it airs again on the Military Channel. When you do, be sure to check back and read your comments.

This is the time of the Internet... I just skimmed through it, and I stand by what I said.

The Nova program is only suggestive about it for artistic reasons, missed that?

If it's run anything like the 'Discovery' and 'History' channels here in the States, then I would not put much credibility in their brand of speculative reporting. I mean, why stick to dull, drab facts when you can boost the ratings by raising questions about something that has no relevancy to the present-day world?

May as well produce a report on the alleged affair between King Henry and Joan d'Arc!

If you listened to the elderly lady in the documentary describe what she witnessed as a young girl, you would have to conclude the test was a successful detonation of an atomic bomb in March 1945.

Probably not. I don't think your typical young girl could distinguish between a large conventional explosion and a nuke.

You do not need a nuke to create a mushroom cloud.

You'd think Hitler would have said something. You know something like, "Get the **** out of Europe or I nuke Paris."

Goes to show what a mental midget he was; he'd rather ruin a popular holiday spot.

"Keine Feriën für mich, keine Feriën für dich!" he probably thought.

I'm sorry but "realpaladin" and "Fnord" are right this isn't even good circumstantial evidence. An atomic test in Europe would have more than two witnesses period! A child's recollection is useless when it comes to evaluating an atomic blast. Even a dud with a kiloton yield would be the loudest single explosion heard during the war in Europe. Everyone in the area would have remembered it and saw the mushroom cloud when they ran out to see what it was.

Sorry but I'm not going to waste my time watching this program because you haven't presented ANY credible evidence. This program presents less evidence of a German A-bomb test than a ghost hunting program.

According to the program, Hitler said to his troops in reference to the new weapon, "May God forgive me for the last five minutes of the war."

Who did he say this to? Where is this recorded? Come on, give us something to work with here. Right now you might as well be citing episodes of Star Trek.

Seems appropriate considering he shot himself.

Which city did he nuke in the last 5 minutes of the war?

Thank you! Couldn't remember which episode it was.

If I recall correctly in that episode of Star Trek, the fuhrer in that show's last words were:

"Then Melakon gave me the drug....*URK*"

Now that's documented! :D

ETA: Oops. Sorry. After looking it up, I see his last words were something along the lines of "Melakon is a traitor for all he stands for. And I promise the Zeonists retribution..." then Melakon shoots him dead.

Hey, this is just as truthful as Hitler having an atomic bomb. Only Star Trek did it better... :D

Hitler's statement was in the Military Channel program "Mission for Mussolini" not the Nova program on the German bomb.

Telling the Internet to provide it for me. Will report back somewhere tomorrow. Now my own fantasies have a need to commence (i.e. sleepy-dreamytime).

I don't care if Hitler said it in a newspaper of record it doesn't make it true. Hitler said Germans were the "master race" that didn't pan out either. It is absolutely ludicrous to think Hitler would have wasted two A-bombs on tests when the Germans knew the Russians were knocking at the door.
