No10 confirms that, despite Boris being "desperate" to go to Ukraine, Zelensky has not invited him.

WAIT...! You mean Zelensky doesn't recognise Johnson's fine fight against...ah...being ambushed by cake, or, er, being seriously assaulted by Carrie over the Russian violinist, or his WhatsApp messages going missing just in time before a brutal interrogation? What is it about Zelensky that he doesn't recognise a fellow soldier in the war against what we will not put up with...?

Then there is the EU. Who needs to sit in a room with all these dictator bullies? Wait...? Joe Biden is going? Whoops, foot in mouth syndrome. Shouldn't have called Brexit a liberation from bloodthirsty aggressors.

Now it is just BoJo against the world. Like Marlon Brando in On the Waterfront.

Replying to Starmer at PMQs Boris said

"The law that P&O are allegedly relying on was introduced as a result of EU directives. He would have kept us unable to change it. He would have made it impossible to protect UK employees".

Ireland & Spain banned fire and rehire. Both are in the EU.
UK has not banned fire and rehire.

He is referring to EU directives that established minimum standards for worker rights. They do not stop EU member states increasing protections.

Article 5 of EU Directive 98/59/EC on Collective Redundancies specifically enshrines the right of EU member states to introduce "more favourable" worker protections.

It's Brexit lies to suggest otherwise.

In P&O Ferries case, it wasn't even 'fire and rehire'.

Once again hollow words from the Prime Minister, pretending that he thought it was illegal and he was going to jolly well investigate this, when he knows perfectly well he and his party have never been in favour of workers' rights. Ever.

Yes it was. the crews were fired and new crews hired to replace them.
They weren't made redundant as their jobs didn't cease to exist.

How does a 1p cut in income tax in 2024 help with a cost of living crisis in 2022?

How does a 1p cut in income tax in 2024 help with a cost of living crisis in 2022?

It is a conditional cut which will only happen if the economy is well managed between now and then.

It helps because it is announced as a cut which confirms the stated ambition to be a tax cutting party but it will not be delivered and currently the public have the highest taxes since the he 1940s.

The cheering and whooping by the Tories at the end was all to give the impression that the country is being well run. They hope people will remember that and the 1p tax cut and they won't get round to count the Coins in their pockets.

Oh look! https://www.theguardian.com/politic...sages-with-owen-paterson-over-covid-contracts Hancock didn't do anything wrong! Sorry, there is no evidence that Hancock did anything wrong.

Why is there no evidence? Oh, noes! Because Hancock didn't keep it! And nor did Paterson.

Really, the relevant rules need to be changed to some involving strict liability: a minister must conduct ALL business only using their official e-mail account or some other official and traceable, recordable form of communication; an MP must use only their official e-mail account or some other form of official, traceable and recordable form of communication when contacting any minister; any and all failures to do so will be regarded as breaking rules, likely corrupt and be punished by fines, suspensions and bannings from taking work in certain areas with certain companies after leaving the Commons. If everything is squeaky clean, then there is no reason NOT to record it and for that record to be kept in the usual public records.

The "good chap" idea behind the lack of regulation of these shysters in the Commons has long been shown not to work. Proper rules now. Even just holding the bastadrs to the same standards as apply to pretty much every other public sector worker.

Whatsapp is ideal for Boris. He can send or receive a message then delete it. Why would he use a system that has a paper trail?

The most intriguing and potentially damaging allegation that Peter Hebblethwaite has made in this session is that on 22nd November an (unspecified) executive at DP World met the Secretary of State, Grant Shapps, in Dubai and told him that P&O was planning to dismiss staff.

So much for the government not being informed.

Also:

P&O chose to break the law by not consulting before sacking 800 staff because it knew "no union would accept our proposal", the head of the ferry company has told MPs - as he revealed new workers are being paid between £5.15 and £6 an hour.
