The quote I have found (ohne source) is "So, there are still some there? I thought we had knocked off all of them. Somebody slipped up again."

Is it just me, or do I detect the Air Marshall's famous caustic sarcasm here?

Ameriguns, it so happens, are notorious for their inability to comprehend irony.
In your mind.

But this is good as I no longer feel obligated to find the damned reference.

That wry jokester Hermann Meier strikes again, cracking funnies about the Jews.

Negationist trolls being able to read irony and humor into the oddest of situations and statements.

How is the work on OSR 24 coming along, by the way?

Oh come now, Mr Caution, while most Ameriguns are impervious to irony, you are a higher order Amerigun. You are of the elite.

Surely you visualise the mischievous twinkle in bluff old Hermann's eye as he said "Somebody slipped up again."

????

I have often considered Hoaxsterism as a manifestation of a Group Psychopathology - a collective mental illness.

But to diagnose the symptom is one thing, to understand the lesion or underlying psychological cause is something much harder.

To date, despite my best endeavours, I feel I can see it but through a glass darkly. But I was wondering if this might hold an interpretative key?

Jerry, that night, had piled every goddamn object in his house against the front door, like maybe 900 pounds of assorted crap, including couches and chairs and the refrigerator and TV set, and then told everybody that a giant superintelligent aphid from another planet was out there preparing to break in and git him. And more would be landing later on, even if he got this one. These extraterrestrial aphids were smarter by far than any humans, and would come directly through the walls if necessary, revealing their secret powers in such ways. To save himself as long as possible, he had to flood the house with cyanide gas, which he was prepared to do. How was he prepared to do that? He had already taped all the windows and doors airtight. He then proposed to turn on the water faucets in the kitchen and bathroom, flooding the house, saying that the hot water tank in the garage was filled with cyanide, not water. He had known this for a long time and was saving it for last, as a final defence. They would all die themselves, but at least it would keep the super-intelligent aphids out.

Ring any bells?

And why the obsession with the exact numbers. Does 4.9 million make it any better for you - Is 4.8 million defendable in some perverse way. Or 4.7 million put a smile on your face. Or 2 million make you want to skip out and buy icecream. Or is it the fact we dont have exact number right down to the nth degree somehow invalidates all those who died to satisfy a maniacs dream.

Why was it Goering said in a moment of reflection, it was our racial policy that got us here (Nuremberg)
I do have to wonder why the deniers have to argue on the head of a pin.

If you perceive the fact that Churchill, Eisenhower, and de Gaulle never mentioned gas chambers in their post war writings as the gassing being a lie of about 2 million, according to an estimate by LemmyCaution, the accounting must be refudged again by the scholarly holocaust historians.

How is what LC said any admission of there having been a lie? You should look at Reitlinger and Hilberg. Their works are over forty years old.

The quote is from Speer's Inside the Third Reich, p. 512. It's Speer quoting Goering.

What about Bolsheviks/Communists then? They were using slave labor as well.

We are talking about the Nazi regime. With or without the Holocaust, it deserved to be crushed for its actions. (Not the least of which was launching a war of aggression against its neighbouring countries.

Are you saying that Goering was assuming a pretense of ignorance and of willingness to learn from another in order to make the other's false conceptions conspicuous? Or was he maybe using words to express something other than and the opposite of their literal meaning? I'm having trouble understanding you here. : )

It does sound like one of Goering's witty retorts but there's also the possibility that Speer was lying...if Speer is indeed the source of this Goeringism.

Why not? People are obsessed with other events like Nanking or Bromberg.?

But no one claims they didn't happen because an exact number can not be defined. Dresden happened, regardless if there were 40,000 or 200,000 casualties. It happened

It is one of the more interesting mental flips denialist use. Oh dont be silly XX number were not killed at Treblinka or Aushwitz - neatly avoiding the fact the installations existed at all. Apparently it is wrong to say 1 2 5 6 million Jews were gassed. But to say they were worked to death as slave labour seems to brighten some people's day up no end.

Try starting a thread on the subject and all the Stalin apologists will flock to it like moths to flames. Apparently Hitler didn't kill anybody nor did Stalin, so must have been those bastard Norwegians slipping under the radar.

Apparently LGR accepts the word of Speer that Hermann Meier made the remark about slipping up and not getting all of Hungary's Jews. LGR, who was not present, can "visualise" the irony in Meier's statement, whilst Speer, who was present, failed to catch the irony. For Speer introduced the remark by noting that Meier's whole approach was to use deception -- and Speer then wrapped up the discussion writing, not "What a witty man" or "Hermann Meier was a cruel ironist," but rather "I was stunned." But why rely on Speer when bunny, who was not there, is able to "envision" things? I wonder whose vision to rely on, whilst I wait, patiently and with a sense of irony, for the deconstruction of OSR 24.

I just can't understand, with reading almost this entire thread, how some people can ACTUALLY (non trolls) think the Holocaust didn't happen. I mean I really tried to open my mind up and think "outside the box" but god damn, that's flat out impossible with this CT.

What a waste of time :), though fun.

You know that little voice that says things like "No, you :Ding idiot, you can't fly if you jump off the roof of this building." and "no, you :Ding idiot, you should not try to drink that gallon of Whiskey by yourself in an hour." and "OH COME ON YOU :DING IDIOT, do you really think water can cure cancer!?!!!?!!!", you know, that voice? Well, in order to believe this brand of nonsense, you need to staple that guys lips together, and launch him into the sun.
