Gallup: NRA more Popular than Obama

Would you support legislation requiring licensing, registration, and insurance before you can get an abortion? Before you can write a blog?

An abortion isn't property, but everyone has a birth certificate, social security number, and either has insurance, medicaid, or gets fined.

Well, one does have to be registered, licensed and insured to perform a legal abortion.

Beyond that, I have to wonder at the thought process that led WildCat to compare owning a gun to getting an abortion. I don't think that comparison works in his favor on any level or from any angle.

It's far more than you've offered.

I offered this:

It doesn't matter what he wants to do. It matters what he CAN do. He will start his 8 years, and finish them, having confiscated nothing.
You people are whining about something that ain't happening. Worry about something that can.

Anything beyond that - if it's not sunk into your head, yet, is pointless.

I think every time Obama has floated any idea vis-a-vis guns, and the LaPierre lapdogs have gone apoplectic in response, I've thought "We don't do that NOW??!! That's insane!"

Here's another bit of insanity - bad guy breaks into store or home but good guy defends store or home by shooting bad guy dead. Anecdotes like these are daily fodder for the gun nutters in this country because they feed the Dirty Harry fetish from which they suffer. The back story is that a guy is dead for trying to steal a TV or something. The bad guy is a bad guy - I'm not arguing that - but I don't feel like celebrating the death of a bad guy who just wanted to steal my TV. Doesn't seem like a capital offense to me. I don't want bad guys to steal my stuff, but that doesn't mean I want them to die.

I'm pro-hunting, pro-target shooting, etc. I'm not sure that we're clear on the line between the types of guns and ammo someone can obtain legally versus those that are not approved for civilian use. I am damn sure, however, that we need to be at least as careful about who gets to use a gun as we are about who gets to drive a car. We need to do a better job of tracking who owns each gun and greatly stiffen penalties for illegal use. If we can, to some extent, use technology to keep a gun from being fired by anyone other than its lawful owner, that sounds like something smart to consider.

In my state, you shoot a guy stealing your TV, you'll be going to jail. If someone breaks into my home, I have to spend some time with him, see what he wants before I give him lead poisoning.

I like it that the "avid" gunner says he defends his home with a gun and then says that he stores them safely. If they're stored safely they're not available for home defense.

Wrong, they can be stored safely by putting the loaded magazine and gun in two separate places but within arms reach of each. Unless no one lives in your house with you, then you can have them where you want.

Your idea of stored safely and mine differ. If you can reach both items quickly so can a ten year old.

A ten year old can be taught.

There's also lots of things that can kill quickly without education, are you locking those up too?

You're the guy who claimed (and of course you claim a lot of questionable things, don't you?) he lent a registered pistol (despite living in an area without any registration) to a friend (which would be illegal anywhere registration is required) who then promptly got it stolen.

Oh, and then there's the Browning M2 machine gun you claim to have in a box at the foot of your bed.

Yep, a paragon of gun safety you are!

Sure it does. Both are rights under the Constitution, yet you think one can be subject to be exercised only with government permission and even denied arbitrarily.

The point was that he flat-out lied when he said he doesn't want to take anyone's guns away. He certainly does want to, and he would if he could. And he tried unsuccessfully to get legislation passed which would have done just that.
