Four Shot Outside Teddy Haggard's Church

Perhaps god is angry that Teddy hasn't been reinstated after his miraculous cure from the gay thing!

Oh, come on, be a little bit tasteful. Whether these people are deluded in their belief in God or not, they are still people. It was a horrible event that shouldn't have happened.

Of course it is. And our postings don't make it worse. We are not being distasteful noting the ironic explanations and god praising that will follow this tragedy. I'm sure someone will blame the secularists as well while claiming that it could have been prevented if Colorado had more liberal gun laws so the church attendees could take their guns to church or whatever.

No one will blame the fact that the mentally ill have ready access to guns. Tons of people will be thanking god for something while ignoring the fact that he didn't protect churchgoers from such violence. Oh, and if I wonder out loud why it's always men who go on these bizarre shooting rampages rather than women people will treat me as though I've asked an out of line question.

I think you are passing judgment on the wrong people. Nobody is glad this happened. And humor is often a means in which humans deal with tragedy. It isn't like we are speaking at the victims funeral, after all. It's just a conversation on a skeptics forum.

Personally, I condemn this act of violence. It's abhorrent and has no place in a civil society.

While having no religeous belief at all, I must support your post. This is yet another gun tragedy, whether believers or atheists.

As others have noted before everyone saved is by God's hand and everyone killed is part of God's plan.

More comforting to some than saying those killed were just damn unlucky.

When will the blood and pain not be fresh anymore?

When the expiration date has passed.

This thread makes me wonder - what would the religious folk be saying if a mentally ill person shot up an atheists meeting? Would they be mocking the victims? Or blaming them for being godless heathens? Praying for their souls? All of the above?

They'd mock them in their own special way. The victims would be to blame for being godless. They get to mock the person's memory but because of religion they could do it while trying to seem like they care.

Wait a sec...The Golden Compass opened this past weekend. Already its influence can be seen across our land that has abandoned God.

Try the bolded part. Nice run at a cheap shot, Lisa.

Just who constitutes "religious folks?" Care to elaborate, or is the tar from your brush sticking your hands together?

Scrut: glad it provided you with some amusement.

ETA: I fixed an error in the tabs for bolding.

I'm facinated that the church had an armed security gaurd. It never would have occured to me that a church security gaurd would be armed. Why? Is this happening a lot?

I'm guessing that maybe it has something to do with the amount of cash these mega-churches take in on a Sunday.

I'm curious about the guards as well. We have a few of those mega-churches here in Southern California and they are often targets of vandalism. I can see why they would want security guards, but guns? Maybe the church received threats after Ted Haggard incident.

By the way, I thought this was interesting:

I had no idea there have been so many church-related shootings.
