People tend to like to live. All people. Do you grok that?

People like to commit adultery, steal, lie, cheat. So what? If you're a Christian, it's clear you shouldn't do any of those things, just as it's clear you shouldn't be interested in self-preservation.

So, are all called on to be martyrs, or are martyrs being pointed to as being blessed?

The point is, obviously, your earthly life is nothing worthing clinging to. (And why would you cling to life when you have eternal bliss just waiting for you? Unless, perhaps, your faith is weak, and you don't really feel convinced that Heaven is waiting...)

What has that to do with deliberately hastening one's end by acts aimed at non preservation of one's life? Suicide is not sanctioned.

I'll suggest to you that nowhere in Scripture are the faithful called upon by Jesus be a complete and utter morons,

Show me where Jesus says, "If somebody attacks you, defend yourself. If somebody tries to take your life from you, try to save yourself. Your life, family, and possessions are valuable things worth clinging to."

Actually, Claus, I'm knocking you. You're the one who goes around pretending to stick up for people who don't even seem to know you exist or get your point while driving other people crazy with your inane judgments and JREF vigilantism. You are the worst at knocking people and then pointing out their far tamer observations on a skeptics forum. You are so blind to how obnoxious you are. I tend to judge people who judge me first.... and I tend to choose my medium. You judge everyone and never concede a point and never realize that you are only making sense to yourself.

And you bring this mockery on yourself by trying to get people mad at me or other people who point out what a blowhard you are. And you ARE, Claus. You accuse people of stuff that you ought to examine yourself for. My calling religious people nutters who are behaving irrationally by spinning a happy god story is something my skeptic friends relate too... the nutty religious folks won't read this or won't realize it's them or might even get a clue and think of how their spin doesn't make sense. They aren't caging their anti atheist spin-- in fact, they like you, are blind to their snide illogic. And also like you, I imagine they would continue with their own delusional spin of what is right and how morally superior they are no matter what they read.

You are not a person I would take advice from. You are far more judgmental and offensive from my perspective than I am. You are worse to people I like--in person and on line. Your sense of humor tends to suck. You annoy the hell out of a lot of people including people here on this thread where you came to derail the thread to continue a fatwa... because you believe that others will surely see that I'm the terrible person you've imagined me to be. It's you, Claus. You and Dann are both way more offensive then the people you are offended by. Get a bit of humility... cede a point on occasion... evolve some humor... and leave the rest of us alone. We don't need your vigilantism. We don't think you are better, more moral, nicer, socially adept or contribute more to the world than we do. Put me on ignore. Perhaps you aren't aware of how much you sound like CFLarsen and Dann. Or maybe that was your intent. I, for one, find Scruts posts much more enjoyable to read than anything the 3 or you write. JREF vigilantes suck. They ought to work on their own social gaffes before tossing off their opinions of others. When you bleat your negative opinions of others to those others, be prepared when those others return the favor and share their opinions of you. Don't have a tantrum; look to see who started things first.
