Farewell, Twinkies

Twinkies used to be good...ADDICTIVELY good. But I ate one recently - for the first time in 10 or 20 years - and it didn't taste good at all. If the company's other products have deteriorated in quality like Twinkies, I'm not surprised they've gone broke.

Yes and No. Tastebuds change and it could just be that the memory of what it tasted like is always going to be better than it actually was. But also they probably did change, what with the prior version containing trans fats, msg, and whatever else has become the ingredient to avoid for the last decade or two.

I believe I've identified your issue. As far as I (edit: or at least my taste buds) can tell, little to nothing has changed about the various Hostess products over the years, but I do know that if I went 10 years without tasting them I wouldn't be able to rely on my memory of the taste to make that determination.

It's more likely it's you who has changed. As we age, we tend not to care as much for the sweets, like we did as a kid.

Wouldn't it take time to get everything going again, unless they bought the whole operation, packaging, delivery trucks, contracts, and all? So best case scenario we're still looking at a shortage of hostess products for a while, if not indefinitely.

Whoever buys it would likely buy the brand, the bakeries and the trucks, unless it was already a company that had their own bakeries and/or trucks.

I realize that I'm in the extreme minority in this country, but I was never a fan of Twinkies....

....or any of those other manufactured cakes...

....or any snack foods either....

I agree, I be hatin' the Twinkies too. Ding Dongs however, are another story. In that case, this IS tragic.

Meanwhile, I've had Shirley Bassy singing the theme from 'Diamonds Are Forever' in my head all morning, except, now it goes, "Twinkies Are Forever, Forever..." :boggled:

Apparently, Twinkies in Canada are made by a separate company (under license), so the Canadian supply of Twinkies won't even wobble during whatever transitionary period occurs while the brand is bought and sold down south. So all the Washington weeders who have the munchies can drive up to Vancouver to stock up.

Hmmm....I wonder what sport should be played by the Washington Weeders?

I wonder how many Twinkies you're allowed to take over the border?

As long as we can agree on them not being a "Food". At least not in the conventional sense of the word anyway.

I've known some people who would think of them as an MRE (what are their shelf life anyway? - LOL)
