Farewell, Twinkies

Sorry, just a pet peeve since my Facebook news feed starting filling up with those planning on going to the store to buy 50 boxes and selling them on eBay.

Are people really that clueless?

(I'll answer my own question - yes they are)

It could be a cunning plan to get back into the black:

1. Company announces closure.
2. Remaining stock sells at insane prices.
3. Profit!!!
4. Company announces expansion, new hires, etc...

They will sell the brand and Pepsi will make them in Doritos and Cool Ranch flavors.
Yum! brands will buy them. Then you will be able to buy deep fried twinkies at KFC and nacho twinkies at Taco Bell. I'm afraid the real loser in this will be the fruit pies. They won't go away. They will simply linger under a heat lamp at the end of the Pizza Hut buffet.

If the company is closing, and letting go of its workers, then how exactlly are "they not going away" ??

Sparing everyone from quoting those huge glaring red letters again, seriously i have my retina's to consider !

I ask for selfish reasons, as i admittedly have an occasional sweet tooth (read every time i am in a convenience store) and occassionally also (read as regularly) buy an apple or cherry pie, or those little orange cupcakes with the same twinkie filling....

MMMM, aerated sugar saturated animal fat !! mmmmmm.

Seriously, my stomach and the part of my brain that craves sweets are flying their respective flags at half staff because of this article...

Are you telling me there's still hope for further clogged arteries ?

They'll just sell the Twinkies brand to the highest bidder. It still has value.

And the 78th reason why I am a dick is that if I were on Facebook and someone told me that, I would have to respond by saying "you may be too late, the stores near me are already sold out, you better hurry."

I salute your accurate and perspicacious understanding of America 2012.

I think its no coincidence that Little Debbie and Dracula have never been seen at the same time. Sinister plot.

I was hoping this thread was going to be about a bunch of white people pretending to be Native American shamans. Goddamned James Rays of the world make me sick. Even more so than a whole box of twinkies dipped in peanut-butter ice cream usually makes me.

The brand (especially Twinkies) is far to valuable to just be tossed in the dumpster. The company is liquidating, meaning they are selling everything - vehicles, warehouses, chairs, and most importantly, brands. So someone, for example Frito-Lay (Pepsi) or Kraft, will buy the Twinkie brand (recipe, trademark, etc) and continue to churn them out.

I realize that I'm in the extreme minority in this country, but I was never a fan of Twinkies....

....or any of those other manufactured cakes...

....or any snack foods either....

If I wasn't already feeling sick after eating three boxes of Ho-Hos, your post would make me so!

Never ate a Twinkie, never cared much for Ho-Hos. But the Hostess Fruit Pies ... ah, those were different. None of the knockoffs could ever match the taste of the real thing.

I think I've tried them twice, thirty or so years apart. The deep-frying didn't help them.

There was a run on Twinkies at our local supermarket. People were taking whole carts full of Hostess products, leaving the shelves bare.

Twinkies used to be good...ADDICTIVELY good. But I ate one recently - for the first time in 10 or 20 years - and it didn't taste good at all. If the company's other products have deteriorated in quality like Twinkies, I'm not surprised they've gone broke.

Wouldn't it take time to get everything going again, unless they bought the whole operation, packaging, delivery trucks, contracts, and all? So best case scenario we're still looking at a shortage of hostess products for a while, if not indefinitely.
