Face, meet leopard. Leopard, meet face.

Not to mention that businesses have been happy to put Jesus fish on their promo materials and restaurants have been happy to put scripture on their menus for yonks also with 'minimal consequence'

Businesses have been doing this for years. There are hundreds or thousands of businesses that proudly display their ideological positions. This isn't new - the only thing that borders on new is that some businesses that aren't explicitly churchy are now emboldened to express support for conservative ideals. Businesses have been hollering their progressive bona fides for years with minimal consequence.
I doubt that they have "now" been "emboldened to express support for conservative ideals" and "proudly display their ideological positions." It is much more likely that it never occurred to them that it might be a sure way to lose customers or that they may even have been deliberately led to believe that only the weak of mind would have access to the “the anti-woke online marketplace,” as mentioned in post 641.

It may not have been what the emboldened conservatives were proudly going for:
Website For MAGA-Friendly Businesses Backfires As People Use It For Boycotts (yahoo!news/Huffpost, April 26, 2025)
Jeff, a regular user of the social media platform Reddit, started noticing people in his San Diego community posting messages desperate for ways to fight back against Trump’s recklessness. Some called for boycotting MAGA-friendly businesses but didn’t know how to identify companies that support Trump’s views. So Jeff, who had extensively researched PublicSquare at his previous bank job, tossed in a note about it.
“MAGA has made it easy for all of us to avoid their businesses,” he wrote under his Reddit name, Hour-Abbreviations18. “A couple years ago, they introduced a website – publicsq.com — to promote MAGA businesses. We can use that same tool to make informed purchasing decisions.”
And those proud emboldened conservatives may only just now be discovering the consequences. I can recommend the YouTube video from The Humanist Report about this phenomenon:
1:46--> The app is gaining popularity among people on the left and also liberals because of how useful it is to them because now they know which businesses support fascism and thus know which businesses they should avoid. And the app has blown up to the point where some businesses registered with Public Square are now publicly distancing themselves from the app. (...) So their response is basically: "Oh gee! Golly! We have no idea how we ended up on this MAGA-supporting website. We're not Trump supporters! That's not us."
And there are five-star reviews of the app!
From the Humanist Report video:
7:02--> This person gives it five stars as well, saying:
"Great app that is easy to find out what businesses support kidnapping citizens to concentration camps, cutting cancer research destroying the economy, pushing disinformation, and cutting social services for people who pay for them out of their taxes. Thank you for helping us spread awareness to avoid these corrupt, disgraceful businesses pushed by our malignant authoritarian regime."

A Shocking Number of Trump 2024 Voters Already Regret Their Votes: He’s “Sowing Chaos” (The Humanist Report on YouTube, May 15, 2025 - 24:26 min.)
2:34--> ... data indicates that the leopards have indeed feasted since Trump took office.
Martha McCarti of Newsweek writes:
"Navigator Research's poll conducted between April 24th through 28th among 1,000 registered voters found that one in nine, 11% of respondents who voted for Trump in 2024, regret having done so.
Another 16% do not regret voting for him but were disappointed.
Among those who identify as moderates, 47% said they regret voting for Trump or are disappointed by his early performance, while 43% of Trump voters who do not identify as MAGA said the same.
But the vast majority, 73% of Trump voters, neither regret their vote nor feel disappointed by his first few months back in the Oval Office.
Only 13% of MAGA Republicans said they regret voting for Trump or are disappointed by his early performance.
The video has several clips with both MAGA celebrities and ordinary Trump voters who regret their Trump support.

Trump-backing farmers vent Trump pride is now 'hopelessness, frustration, anger'

Farmers, who voted for President Donald Trump, are now feeling "helpless, frustrated, and angry" after the administration made cuts to services they rely on, according to the Washington Post.

Vegetable farmers Jacob and Jennifer Thomas have taken more than a 10 percent hit to their bottom line after Trump “abruptly cut $1 billion from two programs that supplied local produce and meat to schools and food banks across the country.”

“The financial insecurity makes my depression worse,” third-generation farmer Jacob Thomas told the Post.

Then, the administration also cut a $8,000 grant, which would have allowed them to build a new greenhouse.

Later, their plans for “a new warehouse and expansion of their farm store are up in the air because of the administration pausing, then unpausing a $750,000 federal agriculture grant,” the Post reports.

Many in the area voted for Trump, but the good feelings are starting to fade, giving way “to a growing sense of helplessness, frustration, and anger,” the Post wrote.

“For every farmer I’ve talked to, this has been earth-shattering and life-changing,” Bryan Zesiger, a winemaker, told the Post. “I don’t know what they were supposed to achieve, but from our perspective, you just hurt a lot of people.”

"We wanted to hurt other people, we shouldn't get hurt!"

Hi there, farmers! Remember this sort of thing? It was only late last year.

Well, you've heard of FAFO, we know. So here's the thing. You have done the FA part. Now this is the FO part. M'kay?

So put on your big boy pants and wear the consequences of your own decisions. As in GTFO.

And eat ◊◊◊◊ and die!

Them, not you.

I view them as much victims of the Rightist Trumpian propaganda machine as anyone else. They were brainwashed into acting against their own best interests - that's not their fault. It's the puppetmasters that I blame.

Yes, but don't forget another important part of this:
What made them want "to hurt other people" in the first place? How did they get to that point?
Republicans have successfully convinced them that those 'other people' are hurting them.
And it's nothing new: Republicans and their backers have spent decades telling this lie.
Trump is not the one who came up with the idea and noticed that it could be used to win elections.
He just radicalized the message: "They're eating the dogs" etc.
Farmers ought to know that oligarchs and big corporations are the ones they are up against.
But farmers were never very smart. That they're using high tech rather than husbandry nowadays hasn't changed that.

A LOT of other Americans seemed somehow to resist the evil hypnosis rays from the Trump propaganda machine. Why not these "smart" people? Could it be...they aren't as smart as they thought they were?

There's lots of reasons why some people fall for propaganda while others don't. In this case, the propaganda played into insecurities that the Rightists had been fostering for years - decades, even. It's unevenly distributed, especially in the ◊◊◊◊◊◊-up American system of politics in which extreme partisanship is not only encouraged but the only way to play the game.

I've always said that about working class Tory/Reform/Brexit voters in the UK, but how long does that hold? How many times do we sympathise with them hitting themselves in the face when they're hitting us too, especially since many of them are hitting themselves in the face as a consequence specifically of wanting to hit other even more vulnerable people in the face?

Don't get me wrong - they should definitely be encouraged to stop hitting themselves in the face. And I'm not saying that you should sympathise with them. I'm just pointing out that I feel like they're the first victims of the authoritarian regime.

Tools, not victims. Remember, a hammer gets as much of the hit as the nails …

At some stage a person needs to grow out of toddlerhood and take prrsonal responsibility for being a nazi.

This seems more and more appropriate (wrt US voters, don't know much about UK politics):

Historians have a word for Germans who joined the Nazi party, not because they hated Jews, but out of a hope for restored patriotism, or a sense of economic anxiety, or a hope to preserve their religious values, or dislike of their opponents, or raw political opportunism, or convenience, or ignorance, or greed.

That word is "Nazi." Nobody cares about their motives anymore.

They joined what they joined. They lent their support and their moral approval. And, in so doing, they bound themselves to everything that came after. Who cares any more what particular knot they used in the binding?

Especially because if suddenly the one policy they object to was reversed they'd immediately resume allegiance. "Trump's not supposed to cut our farm subsidies! We've been betrayed!" "The subsidies have been reinstated." "God bless Trump forever, let's go round up immigrants!"

Only up to a point. Many people have some realistic assessment of what their best interests are, and many also have enough humanity to consider the best interests of others. Xenophobia, racism, and the myth of bootstrapping American exceptionalism were already there. You can blame the propaganda machine for exploiting them, but it takes two to tango.
